Does anyone know anything about the effects, if any, of the wireless internet on people with a seizure disorder? I am a 58 year old woman with grand mal seizures (unrelieved and often made worse by meds, so am med-free and living with the seizures). I have been happily considering moving to an apartment that has wi-fi. In every other way it appears perfect for me, and I was feeling extremely fortunate to have found it. Until today  sad   when I heard a report on Fox News about wi-fi and that sent me to Google. (I am presently on cable.)

I believe this is a completely unfounded complaint by some people who want to sue someone. At least, that's what I heard about it.

There has been a little research but it really is inconclusive. I live in a house with Wi-Fi and I have never had a problem. Some countries take it more seriously than others. In Sweden for example, the government can give you a grant towards anti-static paint. I wouldnt worry too much though. If it does cause a problem with epilepsy... its certainly less than 1 in 10,000!

Thank you so much for replying, Judilyn and djdaz. This is a big commitment for me. It's not renting, it's buying. I live alone and have my seizures alone, so it can be a little frightening at the best of times. I have no one watching out for me. But this area has everything (except a proper grocery store) within 6 blocks. Multi-ethnic restaurants, theater, art galleries, farmer's market, tatoo parlor lol. I don't drive and am at my wit's end presently living in the suburbs. Not to mention the art deco gargoyles and bas reliefs on the just renovated and made into condos building built in 1922! The very low condo fees include wi fi and extended basic cable. And who could resist a neighborhood in which the residents (somewhat illegally) tie their dogs up under the table in restaurants! I was afraid that I would get in there and find out too late that this was a disaster for me. Now I am considering going for it.

I have seizures, I have an degree in Electronics, and I am an IT professional.   Wifi is just one type of RF signal among many in similar frequencies you encounter every day.  Somewhere someone will probably claim the same for cell phones, wireless home phones, Wifi and a host of other devices. If there was any proof of this, a lof of WifI would be going away.

My first seizure was in 1999, my first Wifi at home was, Oh, My god!!!!, actually I don't remember when I set up my first Wireless at home.  But I did get cable internet in 1999. yeah

I would say your opinion should be a valued one.  I hope you will stick around and continue posting.  We all learn so much from each other.  We sort of become like family.

Darren, our forum moderator, is in the process of taking finals and moving, but he will be back soon.  He has a wealth of knowledge about epilepsy.
