Is this a seizure?

For several years now, I have been having what I thought were fainting spells.  The last time, however, was the most intense.  The person who was with me told me it looked like a seizure.  It began with a terrible stomach ache up in my solar plexus (that was a first for me) that lasted at least 10-15 minutes.  Then my ears started to ring and my vision started to tunnel (this is how it usually starts).  These two sensations got stronger and stronger until I lost consiousness.  (The stomach ache lasted until I regained consciousness.)  I came to with the other person in my face asking if I was OK.  This was totally disorienting and I felt worn out for the next several hours.  After reorienting myself, I also felt what I can only describe as a "fizzling" sensation in my head for the rest of the night, and even a little the next day.  I would assume that this is synapses beginning to fire again.

The person with me said that while unconscious my eyes rolled and flickered, and my pupils went from hugely dilated to very constricted.

It seems like a seizure, but some things sound similar to migraine problems.  I will not go see a GP and am waiting to get into a naturopath.  Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I'm actually waiting to see a naturopathic doctor, not a neuro. I'm also in Canada, guess some of us say GP here too. I have nothing else that has gotten worse. I am 25 now and these have been happening since high school; I had passed them off as fainting until the person with me the last time said it looked like a seizure.

m8, ive had the flipping chicken syndrome for years, as well as my wife and sis. and what you said is a typical aura. IE vague funny feeling, then tunnel vision(some peeps have body aches, i have myoclonic jerks) then whamo, clonic tonic for me(sounds like what you are having) then you wake up and feel disjointed from reality. defo get checked out with doctor.

As Carla has said... this is an imformational site and you take what you need from it. My guess here (and this is a guess) is that flipping chicken syndrome is slang for something (possibly epilepsy).

Hi to all. I have had partial seizures (retrospectively) since grade school, and a BIG seizure 3-1/2 years ago when a large meningioma was found in my noggin while I was at work (I am a trauma RN, so I was in the right place!!). Since my craniotomy, which left me a hemiplegic & driving a desk since then, I am epileptic as well. The symptoms described sound an awful lot like a seizure pathodrome, at least to me. Once again, along with everyone else, I would strongly suggest an EEG to confirm that this IS in fact a seizure disorder, along with an MRI to confirm that there isn't some other pathology that may be causing this beyond a simple seizure disorder.

Regarding the "Flipping Chicken Syndrome". Please don't be too harsh. I had referred to myself as having this disorder in an attempt to find some 'gallows humor' when I was first diagnosed. I couldn't accept that I was afflicted, but have come to terms with the fact that it is no laughing matter. Life is a journey, and we are all on a different part of that trail. As I 'grow up' and accept that I now have to live with what I have, I feel blessed & can share a lot more empathy and knowlege in the care that I give to my patients.
