Hi everyone!
I'm 24 years old, and I've been Epileptic for nine years (my anniversary was this past month). From when I was first diagnosed, I've had a total of three grand mal seizures, and the most recent one was 1/29/2008. I was first taking Carbatrol, and now I'm taking Topamax (since 7/2008).
The reason why I'm posting, is earlier this past month my neurologist wanted me to have a three-day EEG study. The reason for this is because since this past summer I've been experiencing a weird visual effect which will happen in ambient lighting or at night time. It's not really an aura, but if I move my hand slowly in front of my face, it looks like there's an imprint of my hand where it was before it moved. It's been happening more and more, so my neurologist thought it had to do with the Epilepsy.
Well, I just received the results of the EEG, and it says that it was "abnormal due to the presence of epileptiform discharges originating from the anterior temporal regions bilaterally and independent, more so on the left. This would be consistent with a partial seizure disorder of temporal lobe origin".
Now, when I went to visit my neurologist, he didn't go into much detail as to what this really means because he was too busy rushing me out of the office, so I'm wondering does anyone know if this means that I do have partial seizures along with grand mal seizures? Is it possible to have both partial seizures and grand mal, or one or the other? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
