I am kinda new here and I am just hearing about some kind of connection between seizures, more specifically complex partial seizure which I was diagnosed with about 3 years ago, and hypothyrodism.  Can anyone elaborate on this please?

well, don't know if this is connected, but I had what they think is a complex partial and an absence seizure, and when I had an mri yesterday, they said my pituitary gland was enlarged which probably meant that my thyroid was underproducing. MAybe you are on to something. Unfortunately, any recent studies or connections will not be looked at here because I live in a town where the medical system is retarded forthe most part. maybe it's time to go to UC Davis, where they are up to speed.

Once I was diagnosed and started seizure meds, I gained alot of weight and had the inability to loose it. My thyroid has been tested and it shows to be "borederline" hypo. WE know since the start of keppra this all happened. Yet I have not had another TC. I am going to be switching meds to topamax this summer after school. Interesting topic. I wonder the connection myself. Take care, Tracy

I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 1998 after a bad car accident. In Feb of 1999 (on my honeymoon) i experienced my first seizure. I wonder if the 2 are connected?

This is an interesting thought.  I was 1 1/2 when I had my first Grand Mal.  Thing is that they didn't diagnose my with epilepsy then, they told my parents that they (yes I went on to have several more) were febrial seizures.  I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was about 12.  I have struggled with my weight all my life.  Right now I am at the highest I have ever been.  I had my most recent Grand Mal on January 17th.  I had been having complex partials for the last 2 years but didn't know what they were.  I thought I was crazy so I didn't mention it to anyone.  I am now 30.  Really makes you wonder if they are related..........
