I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in January after having a grand mal seizure at work.  Since then I have noticed having many more headaches than normal.  As a matter of fact for the last 1 1/2 weeks I have had a headache almost every day.  I am currently taking Trileptal which says one of the side effects is headaches.  I went to see my neurologist on Thursday and he stated it could be one of the side effects, or it could be migraines.  He has given me medication to treat migraines and stated that if it wasn't a migraine, the medication wouldn't work on it.  Well, the good news is, the medication does work on it.  The headache does go away.  The problem is, it comes back again the next day.  I don't know what else to do.  Anyone else have this problem??????????

You can ask the pharmacy if that med might cause rebound headaches? I would talk to the neuro again.

First he gave me Axert, that took the edge off, but the headache never went away. Second one was Frova, that one worked pretty good. Made the headache go away and so far so good, although, it feels like it is trying to come back. He also called in a compounded one. It doesn't have a name and the bottle just has abbreviations, maybe you will know what they are.............NAP250 (I am guessing naproxin), PROC2.5, and CAF75 (Caffeine?). Believe me, I am planning on keeping on him. I didn't have headaches like this before the seizure, it just seems weird to me.

Hi blackcat521-

You say you have headaches!  Me Too!  Mine started when my Zonegran was increased from 200mg to 300mg.  Sometimes the pain is so bad I just cry (but that makes it worse, so I have to make myself stop).  My neuro has decreased the zonegran to 250mg but I feel more simple partials coming back now and I'm afraid if it's decreased more I'll get the complex partials back. 

I took Trileptal several years ago and didn't have headaches with it.  My neuro says zonegran should help migraines, so he doesn't think I have true migraines.  I have a sample of Frova the neuro gave me, but even if it works I know that it's got to be the medication causing it.  I've never had a problem until the zonegran was increased. 

The good news is that many side effects of meds do get better with time.  The bad news is that many side effects don't.    So, the most important thing is to follow up with your doctor.  Make sure he knows how you are coping.  If you don't feel better, your doctor will discuss your options with you.  That might include changing meds entirely.

Solorider-      What are your headaches like?  Do you take anything or does anything make them better?

I had 2 grand maul seizures in 1989. Have been on Carbamazepin since then. 2 years ago I was hit in the head with a rolling door in the back of box truck. Some times the headaches are very severe. I have been to a back cracker ,it helps at the time but they come back. Have tried many over the counter medicines ( Tylenol,Bayer,ect) they only dull the pain.

Solorider-  Wow, sounds like you had some major head trauma when you got hit in the head.  A rolling door sounds like some serious weight hitting you.  No wonder you have headaches.  Does your neuro have anything to recommend?

With ins. changes,referals,doctors retiring or moving I'm not even sure who my neuro is anymore. My general MD sees me every 6 months. He doesn't like back crackers and he gives me a scrip. to try and see how it works if I tell him of a problem.

At one time I was on Dilantin and Carbamazepin at the same time. This turned into a roll-a-coaster ride with the highs and lows. Then he took me off Dilantin. Another time he had me on 1000 mg of Carbamazepin each day. I was so tired I couldn't function.Now it is only 800 mg a day. Every once in a while I get bad shakes in the morning and can't go to work.

The start of these headaches has me concerned. They are so bad at times all I can do is lay in bed.

You sound really frustrated...I would be if I were you.   Actually, I AM.  So, I can identify with the part about it being so bad you just have to lie down.   Hope you can find a solution for your problem.  Maybe your doctor (or another one)  has another suggestion for you?  I know it might not lead to an answer but it's worth a try...(I've been down that road too...)    (((HUGS)))   Glenda  :-)
