my full story

im guessing cause no insurance i was mistreated.

when i was 15 i had a seizure with no convulsion just my eyes rolling during my sleep and my mom walked in
this happened twice in 2 days. my mom did try to walk me around and i wouldnt i was limp and my dad was slapping my face and holding my tongue..but both clamim that just my eyes were rolling but i was unresponsive

i was only given that eeg at the hospital and they said i had a seizure
a gran maul seizure

and the nuerologist there said i had epilepsy my dr thought it could be a reaction to the sleeping pill which was prescribed to me after a car accident for sleep i do not remember the name of it but they all agred i shouldnt have been on it

then i was put on dilantin and my levels have always been low but they never adjusted it because they said iw as having no seizures

then i seen my first nuero in 14 years this year and he performed hand tests on me and things and said i should get an eeg which i cant afford and said that i would probaly never have another seizure.

and then my family dr adjusted my dilantin after 14 years to 4 pills a day instead on 3. and my level stayed the same

i am now 30 and have been seizure free since that second one

i stopped dilantin once and remained seizure free for 6 months then got scared so started taking it again

I'm usually on a different chat forum because I have my own major medical issues but I saw this one and just had to make a comment.
My 23 year old son was diagnosed with Epilepsy when he was 8. He had seizures but no grandmals but they were still terrible. They told me he would probably outgrow it and was on various meds until 14. Then they took him off his meds and he didn't have any seizures for almost 5 years so we thought it went away. He had a grandmal when he was 18 and then multiple seizures and ER visits afterwards. They did a special MRI (splicing through the brain type) and they found a lesion/tumor deep inside the left side of his brain sitting on the speech pattern area. All the tests showed the seizures were coming from this area too. Kaiser sent him to their specialist in L.A. and he was hospitalized for a week with various testing. They agreed he was a candidate for brain surgery if he chose it. My son said, yes, I want to drive again and I want my life back. They said that the chances of success was 40-50 percent (maybe more) but without surgery he would live with seizures the rest of his life. The Neurosurgeon also said this would be a very delicate surgery because he could lose his memory or speech from it. He was such a trooper. He had the brain surgery and it was a success in every way. The Neurosurgeon has been ecstatic. It's been 3 years April since they removed the lesion (no cancerous tumor) deep inside his brain. He has not had ONE seizure since. He has a lot of memory loss of when he was a child (ages 8-10) but that was because of the earlier seizures not because of the surgery. He's doing remarkable. Surfs everyday and is my miracle son. We thank God for a good surgeon and for our strong faith that persevered. Good luck to all of you.
