First time seizures!!

confused   confused confused    I'm twenty years old and I have recently started having seizures. I've looked into epilepsy and I don't classify into that, however of the three seizures I have had, I've been under a lot of stress each time and it's been while I was sleeping. I have heard of stress related seizures before, so I'm praying it's that easy to diagnose. I have an appointment scheduled for this week to get tests done, but is there anyone that can tell me a little bit more about this. Because I'm trying to stay calm, and I am freaking out.

Hi Tamara Lynn. I was just 23 when I had my first Tonic Clonic seizure. I am now 24. It was hard for me to believe and accept. I had a 24 hour ambulatory EEG that confirmed that I was having seizures at night. I too was under alot of stress at the time. The diagnosed me and I have been on meds since. I have not had another TC since then. I hope that the test results yeild what you are looking for. Take care and try to unwind the best you can. It is hard to relax with all of this hanging over you but you are going to see a neuro so that is the step in the right direction. Take care.

I really appreciate the reply. Maybe you can help me a little. Did they take your license from you? They might take mine so I am told, and I am in marketing and I have to drive for my job everyday, 8 hours a day. That's the worse  stress factor now. Please help.

It is very stressfull to not know what exactly is going on and fear having your license taken. The flip side of that, is the thought of having a seizure while driving/ SOmeone I have talked to on other forums has shows his car's picture when he totalled a car in a seizure!! His wife and baby were in the car with them......He could have killed them or someone else......

I do not know what kind of seizures you had, but it is so important to get proper treatment. See if there is any way your work can make allowances for a short time......maybe find someone to help you with driving with this medical condition?

I hope your appointment goes well, you DO need to find out what is going on.........

Yes there is no question that I will find out what is wrong. And I would  never dream of hurting someone on the account of me having a seizure. I don't know if I could live with myself, however no one realizes how much driving is a part of their life until you can't do it. And if I can't drive that just adds more stress to my life for the sake of paying my bills, that might cause me to have more seizures. It's a really scary situation. Thanks for the advice.

Tamara, If your having these seizures at night, make sure they look into a sleep study. I'm not really sure what it shows but it would be better than being put on meds the rest of your life. I think it has something to do with sleep apnea. If you snore, you have a greater chance of having sleep apnea I was told by my neuro. Just a thought, my daughter just started having sz's in march, hers are always early morning {between 6 & 7 a.m. She is almost always asleep} Neuro said that is very common for complex partial sz's. MRI normal. Also said Stress is a major factor. Hope this helps. Good Luck, Pam :-)
