Hey everyone,
I am a frequent visitor to the anxiety forum. I have been a member on here for a while. My question involves my dog, but I know seizures in animals and people are similar. Can anyone tell me what it is like for you when you have a grand mal seizure? My English Mastiff will soon be 8, and has had seizures since he was 3 1/2.. he takes phenobarbital, 5 1/2 tabs daily. He doesn't always have grand mals, but he does have rough seizures even when they aren't grand mals. Yes he has been diagnosed with seizures, but the vet doesn't know what caused it. We have been dealing with this, like I said since he was 3, so the seizures don't bother me much anymore. What bothers me more now, is that when he does land he hits hard, and smacks his head sometimes. He fell wrong on the tiled floor and did the splits, and was in pain. Now he is 195lbs, and it is no easy task to get him up. Plus they are proned to hip dysplasia anyway. This many years of seizures has taken it's toll on his body. I have been contiplating the idea of putting him down. I do not want to, trust me, because it breaks my heart. It also breaks my heart to think of him in pain. He takes longer to come out of the seizures these days. He had a month of no seizures and then had 6 last night in a 24 hour period. Since he is a dog, I cannot ask him how he feels ya know. Was hoping if someone can tell me, are you in pain afterwards? What does it feel like before a seizure, or after? The are more frequent now when he has them, and they used to be maybe 1 a day. Each year has gotten worse. Thank you all in advance.
