Hi folks.  My name is Rowdy and I'm 36 years old.  Last week I had an accident on the road and had no clue how I got wrapped around a telephone pole.  The police thought I was on something because I didn't know where I was or how I had the accident.  While talking to them, I had a grand mal and woke up in the ambulance heading for the emergency room.  I think I had a seizure during the accident and then the other seizure following.  I feel I'm a bit too old to have a first seizure relating to epilepsy. I'm very scared and confused. Can someone give me some input or advice?  I'm seeing a neurologist tomorrow.  Thanks

I am so sorry you had an accident! Yes, it sure is possible that the accident was caused by having a seizure. As Mandi said, ANYONE can have a seizure at any time. Many things can preceed a seizure medications, interactions, alcohol, head injury, sickness, stress, sleep deprivation are just a few things....


I hope the neuro will do testing and figure out what happened. Were you injured in the accident?

Sorry about your accident.  sad   However, as far as being too old to have a seizure, turn your age around and you have my sister's age.  She was 63 when she had her first seizure; 7 months ago.  Hopefully, this will be a one-time seizure for you, but you definitely need to go through all the necessary tests.  Good luck to you.

Hi Rowdy,

I am by no means an expert on seizures and epilepsy as I am learning as I go and its all new to me. I turned 36 in sept and had my first seizure in beginning of Aug, though I had had one in July it turns out too. From what I have been reading and looking on the boards I am noticing that there are at least a few people that seem to have their first seizures in late 30's or early 40's. It at least has been something I have been noticing.

Try not to worry too much before you know all the facts and results. Hope everything turns out ok for you and let us know.

I understand your plight because I too had a seizure while driving but I was not aware I had a seizure and was charged with and consequently now have a DWI. Weird as it is to say you are lucky that you had another one when the police were there or I fear that you would be in the same spot I am!!
