Hi. I'm usually over in the chronic pain forum, but started reading here because my nephew, who just turned 3, began having seizures back in November. He was having up to 20 a day and spent considerable time in Texas Children's Hospital being pumped full of drugs. This once-healthy, very active child was just... gone. The anti-convulsion meds did nothing. He couldn't feed himself, or drink, or walk or even talk much.
Long, sad story short, the doctors started him on the ketogenic diet about a six weeks ago, and the results have been nothing short of spectacular. In that time, he has had only 2 myoclonic jerks, and where even one hard jerk would send him into the ozone for 2 or 3 hours, he now recovers in minutes. Other than those episodes, the child is back to normal. I am wondering if anyone else here has even heard of this diet (or been told about it) and what kind of results were achieved. We are all hoping and praying that this diet is the answer for the long-term. The docs are now talking about weaning him off the rest of his meds as long as he has no more seizures in the coming weeks.
I'm the web-surfer of the family, so I'm just trying to find any information about epilepsy, and the ketogenic diet in particular, that may help. Thanks!
