Brain and body Zaps

I hope you daugter is doing ok. I have 3 year old twins, a boy and a girl.

I had the CAT scan done in ER but that is it as far as a neurologist is concerned. I had two concussions from playing soccer, one when I was 12 and another when I was 22. I do think I need a neurologist who sees this as a physical problem, not something that is manifested by depression because the medication I am on is not helping and I know that the pains started before the depression. They turn into headaches and are often spurred by me doing some cognitive activity. I am going to an early psychosis seminar on wednesday, so maybe they can assist. I also set up an appointment with my fam doctor to see if he can get me into a neurologist. I just wish I could find someone who is going through this same symptoms and came out the other side doing well. I need to get back to my job and concentrate on my family again.

Hi! I have also been experiencing brain zaps. I feel like I get a jolt of electricity through my head and it makes everything in my line of vision shake. It makes me kind of dizzy and disoriented for a few seconds. I get these zaps pretty much everyday, and they tend to happen more often as it gets later in the day. I was also taking risperidone for anorexia nervosa/depression. I also have Crohn's disease, but don't think this is in any way related to that. In case it was that, my psychiatrist tapered me off of it, but I noticed no difference. I have never been diagnosed with epilepsy, and I was wondering if these could be seizures that I am experiencing. Anyway, that is my experience. Take care.

Hi - I just joined and read your posting - wanted to share that I have had success with using Omega 3- which amounts to 2896mg EPA and 1922mg DHA daily. I successfully weaned of a depression med called Remeron, and had the zaps really bad. Have you tried them? You do need to take quite a bit and need pharmaceutical grade in high dose. I am now weaning off Xanax and having them again. My next step is to up the omegas again - will let you know if it works!

Hi, Does this sound at all familiar? 2008 July 08. Hugo’s story. I am just 7 years old and a boy. On the 24th May 2008 I was at home with a friend when all of a sudden I had this sharp headache which lasted just a moment. Later I had another one. the next day I had a couple more and gradually they have increased in severity and also in number; for instance today I have had somewhere between 80 and a hundred separate headaches. They are not always the same. Sometimes they are like a stab; they last for maybe a second or two and mostly will be like somebody has tapped six times or so quickly in my head. Other times, occasionally they are like someone stretched my brain and sometimes I will get it over my right eyebrow, though 99% they are on the side of my head towards the front, but always it only lasts for a second or two. My dad feels that it has often started with activity. Usually 10 minutes after I get up in the morning and I start moving around I will get the first one. Maybe we go out and play ball and I will start getting them again. Other times we might be home just reading and I will get them. They have never interrupted my sleep. We just can’t nail down any exact cause and affect situation. Coincidentally I started to have night time nasal stuffiness and one Dr thinks that this could be the cause and prescribed ‘Beconase nose spray’ which I use at bedtime. Helps my nasal condition but has had no effect on the headaches. Since they started I have been examined by five different doctors and one paediatric general consultant. They are all totally mystified (one thinks it could be growing pains)! Each Dr says they are not particularly worried because I haven’t had any other symptoms except I notice I sometimes feel a little cold on warm days. I am a slightly above average height for my age (exactly 128cm). I weigh 29 kgs. I am lean and fit. I am of Anglo/Caribbean parentage. My schoolwork is unaffected. My eyes have been examined. My ears have been examined. My heart has been listened to. No problems. My dad is researching a lot on the Internet and would be very interested ([email protected]) should someone read this and recognises similar symptoms. Are they just headaches? Will they go away? Are they something serious? Are they ……….?

I get these brain and body zaps too. Normally they are triggered by loud noises, when I'm falling asleep or when I get worked up with my anxiety. My doctor put me on Neurontin. It works to keep them at bay but I have to take it three times a day and usually forget my middle dose. I also am on Prozac for my anxiety and depression. When I do get these "zaps" it is somewhat painful and literally feels like A mild to moderate electric shock. Always in my head, lips, arms, chest and sometimes I can feel it even in my feet, like it travels down my body! It friggen SUCKS!!! Then it makes me irritable too bc it always scares me it "shocks" me in more ways than one. I wish they would all together just stop but it does make me feel better that there are other ppl out suffering in the same way. Misery loves company!
