Hi everyone...

 

I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd say hello.  I was just recently diagnosed back in July of this year.  I've been having many different types of strange "episodes" ever since I was very small (I'm now 30) that I, my parents, or my doctors have never been able to explain and therefore never really pursued.  A 2nd and pretty bad grand mal finally landed me in the ER in May which finally led to my diagnosis.  I just found a wonderful neurphysiologist who is now working to find out exactly what type(s) of epilepsy I have and what is causing my seizures. 

 

So far this looks to be a great place to find support and I look forward to chatting with with you all!  :-)

I am 56 and was diagnosed last summer even though I had a few seizures between the ages of 12 - 13 and one in 1983 when my little brother died, but nothing since then.  This was all completely different for me.  This forum has been a real blessing for me.  The seizures I have now are completely different and I had so many questions and I have been able to find a lot of the answers right here on this board.

 about six months ago, I had a seizure in the middle of the night with colored lights and fog passing repeatedly in front of me.  I checked it out on the board before I called my neurologist because I didn't want him to think I was crazy.  Sure enough, it was a seizure.  I was a beginner and I really doubted myself.  I can't begin to tell you what the support here has meant to me.

Hi Elizabeth,

I wanted to give you a warm welcome to the Epilepsy forum and I hope you find all the support you need here.

I am 22 and was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2000. My seziures are few and far between since they are well controlled with Carbamazipine, but I have the occasional grand-mal seizure. I had one in June 2006 when I wrote my car off (hence I had to surrender my licence) and another in December 2006 when I broke 3 teeth.  

Being diagnosed with epilepsy is hard to cope with to start with and can be made worse when you dont fully understand. Please remember that we are all here for you and we will do our best to help support you in any way we can.

Thanks to both of you, Carla & Darren, for such a warm welcome.  This forum seems to be the best place to be for support so far that I've found.  I love that it is moderated so well and everyone is here for the right reasons.  It is nice to be able to come here and be able to share and make friends.

Im glad that you feel so comfortable here and that you like the way it is moderated... I like that too, I think the moderator here is wonderful!  tongue  Hopefully you will get all the answers that you need here as well as having the opportinuty to help other people as well.
