Hi everyone this is my first time posting

i had a seizure last week , my levels were really high so the doc took my meds off me for 24 hrs which i thought was a long time so next t day i had one he said i have to go for a second opinion and im so scared has anyone else had to do this thanks

Molli, welcome to Healing Well. I still consider myself a newbie here and still learning the ropes...lol. I have been epileptic since I was a bout 8 yrs of age. I have been on the same two meds other than when I was first diagnosed. Was this a neuro who made this choice for you or was this a regular MD? I know alot of times it depends on types of seizures one has, going by EEG, and sometimes age. I was doing good w/ my seizures then I added other health problems to the mix(more stress)and seem to have somewhat different seizures in nature than before. Not a lot different but somewhat. This probably doesn't help out with your situation but getting a med to work for the right person can be tricky. I am probably taking lots too but one kinda blocks the affectiveness of the other. Hi there and Welcome to Healingwell,

I have not had to do this personally but I suspect the doctor may be concerned over the meds suitability. If your levels are so high, it might mean that your body is not processing the med properly. Perhaps changing your AED is a possibility. Im no expert so i might be wrong on this but thats what I think

Re: Second opinion ~ IMO, I don't think you should get more than 2 or 3 opinions b/c all Doctors my have different ideas for your treatment and put you on different meds than the last Doctor, etc and you could end up overdosing on perscription drugs.

That's what happened to my sister and as a result of all the diff. drugs, she suffered brain damage and is now retarted.
