Hi everyone~ I just found this website and it is great, lots of kindness and compassion.  I was diagnosed with simple partials about 6 months ago, at first I was in major denial...I thought no way I am 51 how could this happen!!!!  Mine start with a little jolt and then I get a feeling of intense pressure in my head, like I am dropping in an elevator too fast.  At this point I feel like I might pass out and the fear is sooooooooooo strong, my heart is beating like crazy.  These last for about30 seconds, I was getting a few a week while I was tirating on Lamictal I got up to 200mg a day.  Then yesterday out of no where I had 10, and today I had about 15!!!  I called my neuro and he said all we can do is go up by 50mg each week.  I just feel so discouraged, I thought I was making progress, and now this.  I know I am sounding so sorry for myself, I am not usually like that, but this has turned my world upside down!  If anyone can relate I would be so grateful to hear from you.   thanks~

I do want to welcome you to HealingWell.  I am 56 and was diagnosed about a year and a half ago.  I'm afraid our symptoms are not at all the same, so I can't help you there, but I do understand somewhat what you are going through.  It certainly is a life changing event.  All of a sudden you can't drive, you have to depend on others to take you every where you need or want to go.  Life is not so simple.  It does get better.

Hopefully, someone will come along soon with symptoms similar to yours.  Please keep coming back and letting us know how you are doing.  We're here when you need to vent also.

Carla~ Thank you so much for the reply, it does help even though we don't have the same symptoms.  I am just getting discouraged because even though I have increased my Lamictal I am still getting even more sps.  Has that ever happened to you, more seizures even after an increase?  Again thanks for your kind words......oceanside

It did take some time for my doctor to get me on the right medications, so my answer to your question would be, yes.  I know how frustrating it is, believe me.  I would always have trouble adjusting to the increase in dosage of medications, but I understand they can't just start you out on the does where you need to be.  Dealing with medication for the brain is real tricky, I've found over the past 16 months.

Is your neurologist one that you have access to?  Can you call his office, talk to his nurse and tell her what is going on, she can talk to him and someone get back to you? I am very lucky from that stand point.  I live in KY and my neurologist is at Vanderbilt University Hospital.  I can always get an answer, at the latest, by the next day.  From what I've read on this forum, I don't think others are so fortunate.

Please know there are people here who care about you and who will support you.

Carla~  Thanks for letting me know that you also had a time with getting your meds worked out, I guess I am being impatient.  To answer your question about my neuro's response time, like yours mine is wonderful about getting back to me.  I guess we are both lucky, I too have read about others having to deal with the frustration of uncaring doc's.  It was funny you mentioned Vanderbilt Hospital, that is where my sisters husband did his internship years ago, but I thought his was in Tenn. and you said you lived in Ky. Is there more then one?  I live in Washington State near Seattle, so I don't know much about that part of the states.  Although my mom was born in Ky.  Anyways I have probably rambled on long enough....again thanks and hope to hear from you soon.........toni

Yep, Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN and your Mom was born in KY, small world.
