I've had seizures this week

I've had clusters of myoclonic seizures twice this week.  I think it is probably from the stress of being sick for about seven weeks.  Most of you don't know that, but Darren does.

I finally found out what was going on.  I have fibromyalgia.  So, that has been the cause of my severe pain and my fatigue.  I actually diagnosed myself!  I think the experience of being on this board has helped.  My PCP did some labs and sent me for at CT of the abdomen which showed a hiatal hernia and I guess he thought I would be happy just having a diagnosis.  I don't want it repaired; I would just tear it open before it healed like I did the last time by getting bronchitis.

I told his nurse to please tell him that I thought I had fibromyalgia and I would like to be referred out.  He told her that was rather hard to diagnose, but this Dr. Bother took an interest in it.  I took a print out of all the pressure points circled for my first visit this week with Dr. Botner.  I could not believe how many more he found when he did the exam.  No wonder I've been in such pain.

He did some blood work to make sure I can tolerate Lyrica and I go back on Wednesday for training on taking Lyrica.  He says it will make me very sleepy as we build up the dosage.  I told him I was familiar with that from my seizure medications.

I guess my seizures are from knowing that I have another chronic disease and also knowing that I'm going to be down for some time while my system gets used to the Lyrica.

Thanks guys, I had more seizures today.  I'm thinking it's the stress of knowing that I have another chronic illness (fibromyalgia) to deal with.

Darren, you remember what a hard time I had adjusting to the seizure medications.  It's pretty much going to be that way with the Lyrica.  I have another appointment this Wednesday for training for taking Lyrica and then I get started.  He wanted to do some blood work first to make sure I could tolerate it.  After I get the medication built up, he will put me on an exercise program.  I was really impressed with this doctor.  So, that's a positive.

I've tried to stay upbeat when talking with friends or my daughters, but here I can be real.  I think not letting my feelings out may be bringing on the seizures.

My oldest daughter, Jill had been on vacation and got back last night and called me.  My other daughter had already told her about my newest diagnosis.  Jill sells Anthem health insurance, so she has some knowledge of medical conditions.  She asked me if I knew all the things that fibromyalgia could lead to and started naming some of them.  She said that Anthem will not even sell a policy to anyone with fibromyalgia.  Then she had to get off the phone to do something for my granddaughter.

So, now I will also be visiting the fibromyalgia board also.

Carla, I guess it is a good news, bad news situation. I hope you will be feeling better VERY soon. I am sorry you have to go thru a rough time right now.
