Wow, for a postOp you seem so self aware! You'll be okay in time...it took me about 6 years to stabilize. Still very different than I was PreOp ....but thats life. Whats done is done....But, after 6 years I realized all the progress I could...so you have much to look forward too.
I too was duped into surgery, they removed my temporal lobe, Amygdala, and Hypochampus all at the same time. I was supposed to only go in for a small biopsy :) Gotta love those weasels.
As for those gathering info, contemplating this surgery.,...ask around...I highly doubt you will find Anyone that would recommend it...especially me...I would rather have a seizure everyday than go through all that again. Peace

  Hi Bill, read your post, though you said you would not go through the surgery again, I on the other hand would. It was all worth it to me. I have my Freedom back and no more seizures!  I recently just went through a crainoplasty on Dec 8th 2008 I am recovering from that pretty well, now only to get rid of these migraines. The surgeon took out a plate and some screws and fixed the indentation on my temple that the first surgery left.  hope you are doing well.

I would like to start off by saying I am a new member. I for some reason could not fall asleep tonight, so
for some reason I decided to look up information about the surgery I had due to my seizures. I stummbled
across this particular website and started reading all sorts of information and other peoples outlook on brain
surgery. I "as of 3 years ago" had to have my left temple lobe removed. I am one of the most blessed people
I know to this date due to having this done. I will be honest however, brain surgery was not my cup to tea at first. It took me over 2 years to finally decide to have the surgery done. I can completely understand anyone who is trying to make that decision may not fully understand what to do, but when I noticed how my life was having 1 seizure after another, the decision was not so complicatied. I can tell you that truely it takes nothing but time for you to recover from surgery, but when you do it is amazing. We all need to look at a bigger picture there is a reason we go through things in life and we may not understand them, however we need to be there for one another.That is a job that only people in our position should be willing to do. My each of you see life more abundantly and graceful. God made us. He can also help us. We just sometimes need to give it all to him. That is without a doubt how I was healed. Prayers we sent up. It took patience and love of many others around me to help me through. May you also have those in your life. One thing is for sure, I truely believe I did not accidently find this web site. I was sent here to let you know you will always have a friend who has been there going through what you are and I am also that person that can tell you there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

        I was reading your post this morning, very uplifting. I too am a very firm believer that everything happens for a reason. To myself I thought but how could this be a good thing, but it has been a blessing as crazy as that may sound to you. I've had a long journey with epilepsy, but through it all I am a much stronger person today.

       I am now equipped to help others who are going through a rough time, because I've been there and understand their pain.  No I would have never chosen the road that God allowed me to go down, but because I did I am the person that I am today. I hope that if your feeling down and have somehow lost all hope that I have touched you in some way today.  Believe me I understand!  I dealt with seizures for over 26 years of my life.  By the grace of God I am now seizure Free!

Wow!!

Thanks Positive Energy - I feel I'm not alone. I've been so overcome with feelings of paranoia, and beliefs that I'd never be me again. I just had right temporal lobe surgery in January of 2009 (it's March now). Everyone is telling me to be patient, and I know I should, but I just can't. It's ridiculous how sensitive I am. Oh well, I'm trying to have a sense of humor about it, but I tire at being the butt of the joke!

I feel optimistic now knowing that I'm not alone. I hope a speedy recovery for everyone who has this kind of surgery. I've had seizures for 17 years, and I always balked at the idea of surgery until I went into status epilepticus 2 years ago. When I was first diagnosed at 19 and was researching epilepsy, I had the understanding that status epilepticus always lead to death. I am proof that this is not always the case.

  I hope everyone is doing great!  I haven't seen  any updated post so I thought I'd check in with everyone. I have remained seizure Free since my brain surgery almost 8 years ago. (Right temporal lobe lobectomy).  I am having daily  migraines, which is a downer :(.  Not really sure why I'm having all these migraines.  Anyone else suffer with migraines?  I've tried sooo many  migraine meds and no sucess.  Trying to find a headache specialist now. There aren't any headache clinics in my area. Hoping to be able to go to one maybe in the Charlottesville Va area.  Again I hope you are all doing well.

Hello everyone,
I am a new member as well. I just recently stumble across this forum today while searching for information about right temporal lobectomy and healing process. After 9 years of being on meds for my seizures I finally was able to get my surgery just about three weeks ago. Now I have so many questions to ask and I was wondering if you guys can share with me your experiences and if you guys face any of these risks. Since after the surgery I have had problems with my left peripheral vision. I was wondering if any of you guys had this problem as well and if this problem ever got resolved? Also how long before the swelling went away and how long did it take for you guys to get back to the old you? What other side effects are there after the surgery that you end up encountering? How many of you were able to get away from meds after the surgery? It would help me a lot if you could please share your experiences with me. Also I would like to hear your experiences as well if anyone is willing to chat with me. Thank you so much.
