OK, So Topamax, BE Specific!!

I keep getting these vague warnings from everyone saying BE CAREFUL with this little icon => nono

telling me to be careful with Topamax and how dangerous it is and so forth, watch out for side effects and so on.  No one has been very specific however.

I would really like some useful discussion about your experiences with this medication.  I have been on it for about 8 months.  I have had the following experiences:  I was unsuccessful in being transitioned from Neurontin to it in full (I was unable to be put on other meds as I was trialed on others and had either allergic reactions or poor control) however I was put on Neurontin for Migraine control and for seizure adjunct.  Neurontin was pulled back to 1/3 of my original dosage and was doing well until recently (not sure why things changed).  My weight has dropped a lot but other than that I've had no other problems other than some breakthrough issues in the past few weeks.

What are the issues that I am supposed to be concerned about?

I believe from what I have heard from a friend who was put on Topamax for migraines. That she could not think clearly, spell, which was a real prob in her job, think of words, also another problem since she networked with people on a daily basis, so she decided it was not for her. I have been on it for years and think it is the brass monkeys ( I love it). I have as far as I can tell no side effects from it untill they combined it with Carbatol and wildly uped the doses in an attempt to control my seizures. I sometimes have crossed eyes, dizzyness, all sorts of weird little crude but I really don't point my finger at the Topamax, I think it is the combo of the two and the large dose, also it is not consistant so I am not even sure it is medication related. I think some folk are just very sensative to Topamax and some of us are lucky and get along well with it. Monte
