My 35 yr old son has epilepsy. He is on 500 mg Lamictal, 2000 mg Keppra, and 700 mg Zonegran. He has been seizure free for 4 1/2 yrs. The meds he takes are all brand as his neurologist said the brand drugs are the best. This is my question - has any one taken any of these meds that are generic and if so how do they work? I have heard generic lamictal doesn't work so well. Apparently the generics are not really the equivalency of the brands. My son may lose his health insurance and his drug coverage so he would be forced to take the generics. I would like to hear from any of you who have taken any of these meds in generic form how they work for you. And do you think generic is equivalent to the brand drugs. Being seizure free for so long and then having to go back to having seizures because of generic drugs is going to be a real blow to him. He also has a problem with OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. I think this is because he is so afraid of catching something and getting sick and having a seizure. The OCD has really affected his life. It takes him over 2 hrs to get dressed. Please, please reply if you have any answers to the meds questions or to the OCD. Thank you.
