Hi. I have had complex partial seizures with secondary generalization since 1976. I have had depression/anxiety (I have been diagnosed with Bipolar II) since early teens. I had good seizure control on and off throughout the years. Have tried Dilantin, Depakote, Topamax, and Carbatrol. Last month I started switch from Carbatrol to Keppra. No seizures or auras so far. The first two weeks of starting Keppra made anxiety and depression worse, but the past couple of weeks I have felt: progressively happier and confident, clearer of mind, able to find my words more easily, and have improved memory. However, I am kind of hyper now, have insomnia A LOT (sometimes Tylenol PM helps, but sometimes not) and my appetite is all but gone. I can stand to lose a few pounds, but the weight is just effortlessly dropping off very, very quickly, so I am hoping it will level off soon (I have lost around 8-9 lbs since starting Keppra one month ago). I am wondering whether anyone has had similar experiences. I am particularly interested to know if it helped anyone's bipolar symptoms.

I am brand new to seizures, have just been prescribed Keppra (for a week) and noticed both a decreased appetite and a more positive attitude. Have not noticed the insomnia.
Good luck.

I've been on kepra about
a week now and i keep waking up through the night. i would love to not need sleep... i've always complained that i need 8+ hrs of sleep each night. maybe this could be a good thing. and i'm definately experiencing the anger issues. i don't have patience anyway but i literally want to crush things now. So you guys think this will go away in a month?

I was on Keppra for a month as my first AED. I think my neuro at the time started me out on too high of a dose. I had no appetite and also lost weight in a short period of time. It never made me happy but more like depressed because I couldn't physically get out of bed. I don't remember being hyper on it at all. I was taking it for epilepsy by the way.
