Hi everyone,
I wanted to tell a few of you my story in case any of you are in the same boat as I was. I am 37 yrs old. When I was 17, I got into a car accident where my head hit the windshield, and shortly thereafter, I started suffering from Grand-mal seizures. I was on Dialntin, and it seemed to be the only thing that worked for me. Doctor after doctor continued to "manage" my seizures, which they did pretty effectively with the Dilantin. Well, about 3 years ago, when it seemed that the Dilantin was too much to handle, and many other symptoms started coming on (which they said were a result of Dilantin, and some other diseases) I found out I had Lyme Disease. To make a long story short, After 1.5 years of treating the lyme, I had some heavy metal poisoning because of the Lyme toxins. They put me on chelation therapy to clean out the toxins, and because I couldn't take any meds a few hours before or after the chelation, I noticed that I haven't taken my seizure meds for 3 weeks!!! It's been over a year now, I haven't taken a single seizure med and I haven't had a single seizure.. I don't even get the aura or anything that went along with them. Come to find out I had Lyme disease with a few other co-infections and that was the reason for the seizures. Lyme disease always acts up when the body is stressed, and did something in my brain after that accident. My doctors now think I had Lyme since I was 12.
I know that not everyone has Lyme Disease or other tick born infections. But my point is to question everything. I was being treated for epilepsy when I needed to kill off these Lyme bugs instead. And even though everything poited to a traumatic brain injury...it wasn't.
I don't wish Lyme on anyone. It has been the hardest thing I have ever had to overcome. But what an amazing relief it is that the seizures are gone.
By the way, before I stopped the meds, I hadn't had a seizure for 2 years, so now I have been seizure free for over 3 years.
Good luck to all.. I understand seizures...Had them for 17 years. And if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.
Samantha
