Hi everyone, my name's Carly and I'm 23...I've had epilepsy for about 5 years now. I've been wanting to find a messageboard like this for awhile now, and I'm really glad I did. Last night I woke up shaking at about 6am and layed there for about 10 minutes before falling back asleep and having a seizure. I knew I had one because of the way my jaw was sore on the side and my body ached. Usually that's how they happen, but a few years ago I had one when I was driving and totalled my car. I pray every day that they'll go away, I just want to be normal again.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my story and I hope to make some friends here :-)

Hi Carly! I started in here not to long ago and I found that everyone here made me feel really comfortable. They are very supportive when it comes down to your problems. When you have a question don't be afraid to ask! Anybody in the room will be glad to offer you the answer if they can help. I hope to talk to you again.

Interesting post re the part about having a sz while driving and totalling your car.

I'm sorry but I have tons of questions and no answers.

Was anybody injured? Are you on any meds? Did you have your drivers licence taken away after the accident? Are you seeing a neurologist or epileptologist? Did you have a known seizure condition at the time of the accident?

BTW ~ epilepsy (if that's what you have) does not go away ~ just controlled with meds or surgery.

There are some very interesting posts on this board, hopefully, some of your questions and concerns can be answered by reading some of these posts.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 1 year old. I had both pm and gm seizures with blackouts. They were strong up until the age of 11. They started to become under control by meds. I got my license when I was 16 and I drove for 2 years. I had a seizure went over an embankment through a fence hit a cow in a pasture, out the other side of the fence and into the corner of a house. I no longer have a license. I am now 39 years old. My seizures are now getting worse. I have a VNS unit hooked in, but I think it's time for a new battery. It's hard getting around without a car but I have done it for so many years I guess I'm use to it.
