Lamictal and Taste Changes?

Hi all!

Can anyone tell me if Lamictal causes any sort of changes in taste? I am still on Topamax and anything carbonated tastes absolutley aweful. I miss my diet 7up and the occasional beer on a hot summer day! Anyhow, I'm hoping to ease off the Topamax in a few months if the Lamictal is working out ok.

I have been on lamictal for 6-7 years and have not had any taste changes at all. I was on topamax for a while for my migraines, and soda's did not taste good at all, I had to give them up. But I went off the topamax after about a month, there were just sooo many side effects. However I did loose 13 lbs on it, but the bad out weighed the good so I went off of it.

Hope the lamictal does well for you. I only take 100mg twice a day. I had brain surgery in 2002 to remove a lesion on the right side of my brain. since the surgery I have been seizure Free for 5 years!

Hi there,

I dont believe that Lamictal has any effect on taste as a general rule, but everyone reacts differently to meds and it could be that the combination of the Lamictal and the Topamax is causing it. I dont think its common though. Have you asked your doctor?
