how long doeas it take to get back results fom an eeg?????

i had a 48 hour eeg recording done last week while i was in hospital, and was wondering if anyone knows how long i will have to wait to get the results back?? i dont have an appointment to see my neurologist yet but am waiting on one to come in the post hopefully very soon so i can get this all sorted out.

oh and also, i should have had a 72 hour eeg but the doctor said they had enough to go off so they took it off after 48 hours, i didnt have a seizure while on it. do they get information while it is on even though it is portable, i did have to go down to the electrophysiology department 24 hours after they put it on to have the batteries changed and to make sure all the wires were still in place (what fun ha not!!) so does anyone think that maybe they changed the recordin tapes over or something and analysed it??????? im confused although it doesnt take much haha

(it wasnt a video eeg either just a regular one)

It took a few weeks in my case. Though I'm not sure of the exact timescale because the hospital wrote to my GP but neither thought to, you know, actually write to me. So if you're anxious, you'd be advised to keep phoning up the neurology department.

They ended my test a day early too but I gave them a bucket-load of seizures to study. It seems a bit wierd them ending yours early if you didn't. Though 'weird' is only one word for it; 'downright negligent' might be another. You should ask questions about the technicalities when you get your results. And see if you can actually get a straight answer out of them. (If I sound bitter, well, I am a bit).

Hi there,

EEG's can be ended early and it is possible that they were able to get a brief idea of the data when you had the batterie changed although, as Andrew has said, iyt can take weeks for full analysis. My neuro has told me (and shown me on the data) where there was seizure activity on my EEG but I am sure I didnt have a seizure. If I had not have seen the data I wouldnt have believed him. So it is possible for them to get data in that sense.

thanx for the replies, i am bitter towards the neuro docs too andrew they keep messing me around, i have seen so many different docs i have no consistency with care its shocking but anyhow hopefully this time round i may get some answers as to what is actually causing these seizures, and then i can begin to get my life back on track.

I think they actually made a mistake by taking the eeg off a day early bit didnt actually want to adit that they were wrong in the electrophysiology department, because the staff on the neuro ward seemed to think that it shoul have been left on for another 24 hours, i wasnt too fussed tho because i was bored and i hate being in hospital ha
