How do they change meds?

I don't know if Gavin is a child or an adult.  Have they increased his dosage yet?  I am 56 years old and was just diagnosed in August of 2006.  I was certainly still having seizures at that point.  Have you called his doctor.  I don't want to discourage you, but it took me 15 months to get to the point that I was 90 days seizure free so I could drive and I am on three seizure medications, Topamax being one of them.

I know when I started my medication, I didn't expect things to happen over-night, but at least within a few weeks.  As a rule, it just doesn't usually happen that way.  I am not a medical professional, just a volunteer with epilepsy.

Darren, our moderator who is on the other side of the world, will probably be along before long.  I call him Mr. Epilepsy Encyclopedia.  He really is knowledgeable on the subject and may be able to help you.

Apologies for taking a while to catch up with things. MEds changes can be done at home and are normally a gradual thing. Usually the first drug is lowered and then the new drug is started gradually, working up to a theraputic dosage. Sometimes there can be an overlap where there is a little bit of both drugs. This can be carried out at home (usual practice) but can also be done on neuro wards. Given the shortage of beds in the NHS in UK, this is very rare.
