breath,
Yeah, my Midwestern grandparents were Grandma & Papa (my mom's parents). I never met my father's father (he died before my parents got married), but my father's mother has a special name. For some reason, my dad and his 2 brothers started calling her "Toots" (not toot-toot, like a train, but toots-that rhymes with foot). Anyway, all the grandkids still call her Grandma Toots. LOL-when I was little, I thought that "Toots" was her last name. Grandma Toots is closing in on 97, and she's one of the reasons why I want to move back home. about 2 years ago, my parents had to bring her down from Wisconsin and put her in an assisted living place. She's as healthy as any 96 year old can be, but she has some dementia and has a very hard time remembering what she said 5 minutes ago. But, she can tell you all about what happened in 1945! BTW-since she is Irish, I got my very first tattoo in her honor-a shamrock on my ankle. She was about 85 at the time and my very liberal, hip, Grandma Toots, thought it was cool! LOL I want to get a chain of smaller shamrocks around my ankle and have "Toots" written in them.
I don't know why I went into all of that.
If you asked me 5 years ago if I would EVER live in SC again, I would have told you that I would rather stick a fork in my eyeballs. But, getting sick and getting older has made me appreciate that I need my family-as crazy as they are. Seriously, we put the "FUN" in dysfunctional. LOL Also, I just miss the little things about the south. I have been in SoCal for 8 years and I have yet to find a real gentleman. Yesterday, when a guy held the door open for me, I said, "Thank you. You must not be from CA." He said, "No, I'm from Virginia." LOL BTW-sorry to all of you who love CA-no offense.
I've lived in Wisconsin, SC, GA, and CA, but as Dorothy said, "There's no place like home!"
BTW-sorry for the incessant babbling. But, hey-it's what I do best!
