Tramdol to Cymbalta anyone?

Just curious on your input between the two drugs.  The Rheumy is still trying to put me on the Cymbalta but I can't see bringing out the big gun if the slingshot works.  I'm not depressed either.

I am on both meds and have been for quite some time. I have not had any issues with taking both. They seem to tackle different things for me.

I couldn't take Cymbalta. It caused severe heart palpitations. I, just me personally, don't trust antidepressants anyway so I'm just as happy I can't take it.

hello, i am trying to go from tramadol to cymbalta. i am weaning off the tramadol and have been taking cymbalta for a week now....my doc has been trying to get me on cymbalta for a while and i kept saying "i'm not depressed!" thing is that it is also used for diabetic neuropathy....somehow it is like a pain med and antidepressant mixed in one pill. it does seem to help with the pain, but i have not noticed much of a mood elevation...just feeling a bit hyper and irritable....also have worsened insomnia so i had to go on a stronger sleep med.....

Hi Broomhilda! I've never tried tramadol but Cymbalta turned me into a brooding and sullen Mr. Hyde. My whole mood and demeanor......even my personality changed to dark, unhappy and ugly. The worst part was that I didn't even realize it was happening. It took my wife and daughter, together, confronting me with the reality of what I'd become.

I had asked to be changed from Prozac, which I'd been on since 1985, because I thought it wasn't working any more. All I really needed was a significant boost in dosage to fix it but I hard-headedly demanded a change and, wow, a change is definitely what I got! What's worse, getting off the Cymbalta caused some nasty withdrawals......dizziness, nausea, vertigo and bizarre "brain zaps" every time I moved my eyes or head too fast! Restarting the Prozac took care of that after a couple of days and got me back to the good ol' me. Cymbalta does not affect everyone this way so take what I said with a grain of salt and do a little "Googling" to get more info before making any kind of med change!

d2parrotperson....that is my whole arguement. I don't want anymore anti-depressants! I know it helps with diabetic pain and I understand the logic behind prescribing it. I just discusted with the fact that I go to the doctor and "complain" about my symptoms and ask questions about alternative treatment and take a whole approach to Fibro. I am sick and tired of this being translated into "anxiety & depression"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am already required to take Lexapro to help with my stress levels and Crohns. I don't need to be catatonic to boot!

I have tried almost everything unfortunately and I could not tolerate Cymbalta. I took it for 1 day I believe and had a bad reaction. Thought I had the flu so I tried it a few days later and it got me again. so I couldn't tolerate that med.(One of the many) I'm not and was never depressed so it just wasn't for me. I can't take Tramadol and was on it for awhile. It made me feel sick, too. I can't take a bunch of meds because I am allergic to them. And Ultram/Tramadol just wasn't strong enough for me. I am finally on a few that work. Finally! None of the anti-seizure meds helped me and actually made me worse and I am allergic to some of the binders and fillers in some meds so I am very careful about what I will take. (I have a lot of allergies w/ fibro that I never had before...) anyhow. what works for one person might not work for another so research your meds and talk to your Dr.'s and when you find the right combo....which took forever in my case....when you find the right combo it makes a world of difference.
