anyone else get neck pain

The muscles/ligaments on the left side of my neck and down to my chest feel as if someone is tugging at them. Anyone else experience this? Its not all the time; mostly towards the evening it starts. Please tell me someone else has this. I always feel somewhat better when someone else is feeling the same thing.

Kimb, your not alone, many have neck pain. The back of my neck is a mess to put it mildly. I get shooting pains up into my head from the muscles. It goes clear down into my shoulders. I have been having sore throats and feeling like I have swelling on the sides of my neck. I went to the doc Thurs and he changed my allergy med but it's not helping. He could not feel any swelling so I'm wondering if it's not from the muscles. I've had tender points on the front of my neck since I can remember now and also further down on my chest.

 

My pain increases as the day goes on also.

 

The upper half of my body is much, much worse than the bottom half.

I also get that feeling in my neck and shoulders. It is mostly on the left side also. It feels like the ligaments are tightening up and are too short or something. Like you say, like somebody is pulling on them. And it is worse at the end of the day when I am more tired. Also bothers me at night.

I also feel it, you can feel all the ligaments and muscles .  Mine eventually start to burn all up my neck.  Half the time I use a scarf which seems to help.  sue2z

I've had neck pain for 10 years now. I've got DDD, spinal stenosis, bulging discs, spurs, etc. I'm not a candidate for surgery. I'd get the occasional flare-up, and the ortho doc would give me trigger point injections in his office, and I'd be all set for a few years. The fibro reared its ugly head last October, and now my neck is so painful, and the injections don't work. I know that fibro causes a heightened sensitivety to pain, to everything actually, and it's doing a real number on my neck. The pain radiates into into my upper back, ribcage, arms. It's a nightmare. The spasms are just terrible. If I didn't have pain meds, I think I'd jump off the roof.

The fibro has my body so weak, that some days I can barely walk or pick up a glass. My thighs burn and my feet scream. I can't take this pain. I live in Boston. I've been seen at the best hospitals, seen the top doctors...orthopedic surgeon, neurologist, neurosurgeon, physiatrist, two rheumatologists, had a cervical steroid injection OUCH!, etc. Nobody can help me. They shake my hand, and some wish me luck. I'm starting with a chiropractor tomorrow. I'm desperate.

Dilane, I know what it is like to reach rock bottome. Mine radiates through neck then shoulders and down upper back the pain really is unbearable and the only time I got relief was throuogh a pain management clinic but he specialises in rheumatolgy as well but sounds like you need a more general pain releiver.  I use Norpsan patch made my pain so much better. A phycologist cant prescribe only talk.  sue 2z turn turn turn   we all go round and round. Took two years to get the proper treatment.

When my fibro first hit I would get the same thing and worse at night also. My Physical therapist says that is the prime area that stress hits. She has been doing gentle stretching myofacial massage and that has helped loosen my neck, shoulders, and front chest area. In fact I have better mobility in these areas than I have had for years! My neck and upper back muscles/ligaments were so tight and knotted up it felt like rocks. Your not alone on this. GamJill

All the above. My neck is a mess too. Bulging discs, stenosis, OA, spurs, straightening of curve. Not a surgical candidate. I get headaches virtually every day. Bad ones, sometimes migraines like.

I feel your pain as well. I have neck/shoulder pain every single day 24 hours. I'm used to it now so it doesn't bother me as much all the time. Some days are worse than others.  Heat does help as well as a light massage. The problem is that I can't find anyone to offer the massage! LOL

hi i get the same pain i wake up every morning not being able to turn my neck and migrains everyday i have degenerative disxc disease in my neck it hurts like hell but they said use heat and take the tramadol and it should help but it doesn't itr only gets worse from the change of the weather

Wow! I can't believe how many of us have neck problems. You seriously begin to question yourself. I tell my husband what some of these symptoms feel like and he just looks at me as if I'm nuts. I mean, you can't make up this stuff! I'm not sure why the neck thing happens toward the evening. I"m not happy that all of you have this but I'm happy that if I have to have it, I have all of you with me.(if that makes sense) I feel less afraid having all of you when I experience these strange happenings to my body. This morning I went for an MRI for my hip. I had an x-ray and it showed nothing and so now they did an MRI. I dont' want to just assume its Fibro without checking.

Love and hugs to everyone and thanks for all of your support. You are all wonderful and I'm sorry that most of the time I come on here only when I'm in need of help and not to offer help :(. I hope you all feel better.

I am so happy to have found others that experience what I do also, Kimb. My right shoulder gives me trouble daily. This is a great forum. We all have too much in common-unfortunately- BUT it is great not to feel so alone. :)

Both of my shoulders hurt frequently. Both shoulders in the front, on top, down my arm, and my elbows hurt. My neck is a mess! Massage helps, heat, and Chiro. I did find out this week , my shoulders have hurt terribly the last week and a half. I went to the chiro, she does a neck pull adjustment. Immediately after - my shoulder pain stopped. I am now convinced my shoulder pain is from a pinched nerve in the neck! Ask your chiro if the shoulder could be related to the neck.

I feel like my head weighs a hundred pounds... Can't hold it up. I know I'm smart and thought.. WOW, I have such a heavy brain... tongue
All kidding aside, it's worse when the barometric pressure is low... and today, with the remnants of Hurricane IKE making it's way through the North East, I feel as if my head is going to rip from my shoulders and roll out the door.
Oh.. and the feet pain.... UGH... I call it my "sole" pain.

No medication for pain... afraid of what I'm on now is screwing up my liver....
Cymbalta, Xanex, and Ambien.
DDD, Spinal arthritis, Fibro, Chronic fatigue, irritable bowl, sexual deprivation (oh, sorry, that's not a medical condition - HA HA HA)... I have to keep laughing or I'll just cry all the time.

Brooklyn, your right if we don't keep laughing there is going to be a whole loony bin full of fibromites.

 

I have found when I feel like I can't hold my head up cause of the muscles if I lay down for awhile and support my neck with a small pillow or something it really helps and then I can keep going for awhile.

Fibromite... absolutely... that's the name for me.... All this time I thought I was just a Brooklyn-ite, but now a fibro-mite as well.... COOL!!

OMG! I have really bad neck pain, and pain between my shoulders too! All this started in May and it and my back pain are what finally got me diagnosed with fibro. All the stress and tension often settles in the neck and shoulder area. Hope you feel better soon.
