Anyone suffer from vertigo??? It's more than being dizzy.... when you move your eyes to the side, I can hear a swoosh, swoosh in my ears. Oh, this sounds so stupid.
I know that I suffer from authostatic hypotension (dizziness or fainting when abruptly changing position) but this is so darned annoying.

Hi girlfrombrooklyn!

And welcome. In this forum nothing sounds 'stupid'...lol. Many do hear very faint sounds like heartbeat and pulse when laying quietly. so many senses are over sensitive and amplified. That's what fibro is...amplification of pain but some people have amplification of other senses also. Do mention it to your doc cause other things can cause the vertigo and you sure don't want to miss anything.

I know that some dizziness can be caused by fibro, but like Chutz said there can be many other causes, so I would probably check with your doc if it continues.

 

I have an inner ear disorder that causes vertigo, and the dizziness is often triggered by my eye movements or things moving in my visual field.  There is a huge connection between your eyes and ears as they relate to balance, and if your brain is getting mixed signals from them, it can really cause dizziness (and other weird sensations). 

 

Anyhow, I don't think it sounds stupid! :-)

Well I wouldn't call it vertigo exactly, but I do get dizzy after being on my feet for awhile. I feel really unsteady and wobbly and kind of disoriented.

This was actually the first thing in a chain of events that led to my diagnosis of fibro.

LOL... okay, so nothing sounds crazy when you have fibro. The ALL ENCOMPASSING condition. That's the problem, I don't know what's fibro, what's the depression/anxiety, what's the meds, the ADHD, sensory integration... holy mackerel, they should have drowned me at birth. Just amazes me.

When I was in my early 20's, I had many episodes of vertigo with the sound you mentioned.  I was diagnosed with Meneierre's decease (sorry, I can not spell this word to save my life).  I went away after a few years.  Now that I have FM symptoms, I have vertigo again without the noise.  Now I wonder if they are related, since my doctor has said to me that Meniere's doesn't just go away.  Who knows with this DD?

I have only had spells of vertigo one time. They originally thought I had MS by my MRI scan that showed spots on my brain. I also get this "tone" sound in my ears on occasion.

The thing I notice most is this "weak leg muscle feeling" While I am walking I feel like I have to really focus on it. (walking steady) This frightens me because it could be from a number of things. I'm sure after my 2nd MRI with contrast I will know better what I am dealing with. I would be relieved to find out it was only fibro and not ms.

I have had the whooshing sound for a few years. Mainly when I first awake in the morning. I have it mostly in my right ear (but also left) and I'm not dizzy with it. It is just annoying. I have been more prone to ear infections since fibro hit me (well, any and all infections get me now. unhealthy immune system?) but the swoosh you describe is what I have grown used to. If I'm flaring I have the sound hit me on and off all day and it is not pleasant. But ya get used to it, unfortunately.

I had vertigo for the first time a few weeks ago. It lasted about 1/2 an hour. It was horrible! I had to close my eyes and I couldn't move at all or I was going to get sick to my stomach. I went to my ear nose and throat Dr. I had my ears checked and it wasn't them. They gave me meds for nausea just in case it happens again.

Oh that is the WORST! I've had issues w/dizziness and keep compazine on me. There is nothing more frightening than the room spinning out of the blue.

I have orthostatic hypotension also, and sometimes I get the same feelings after standing for a long time. I don't have any whooshing noises in my ears though, just constant ringing. I was told that the vertigo was just the O.H., because low blood pressure when you stand makes your blood rush out of your head, and the low oxygen in your brain gives you dizziness and vertigo.

ive been diagnosed with 'benign vertigo' and given excercises to do- have not found them helpful. i also have chronic ear infections and frequently have ruptured ear drums which in turn, mess with my equilibrium. its so horrible.
