does anyone know xactly what this is. i know its the 4th biggest killer and it incurable. id like to find out some self help tips and how to no when to seek medical help. i've only known i have this for 2 wks and im absolutly terrified. all i know is that half of one of lungs is badly damaged and i've been given a seretide evohaler.

Hi Nextasy and welcome.

This is a very serious disease and you need the best medical care you can find. Always follow your doctor's recommendations. There is no cure for this...the lungs are damaged and you can't reverse it. But there are good medications to help you breath better and feel better.

Here's a site that will help. It's the National Institute of Health (NIH) site and explains it very well.

hi chutz. thanx, i'm going to have a look at ur recomended site now. and i will keep you posted as i have only found healingwell today and am finding it nice to talk to people who really seem to care. my family are great but i dont want to keep burdening them and make them feel bad because im so ill. its just nice for me to make friends(hopefully) that know exactly how im feeling, even though i have had a couple of crying sessions today while i've putting things down into words. just brought home how real things are.

Hello Nextasy65, C.O.P. D. is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Nice to meet you and welcome to healingwell.
This topic though is better answered in the Allergies & Asthma Forum.
Try reposting it over there.
C.O.P.D is an airway disease as is Asthma.
Chronic Bronchitis is also given the term C.O.P. D.
We are a big family here and we care about each other, never think for a moment that
you are a burden to us. a question from you might be a question someone else was wondering about,
but didn't know how to ask, your always welcomed here with any questions.
and as for crying sessions, I've had a few of those too, so your not alone on that.

Hi everyone,

 I recently went and had a coloncopoy sp? and i was told by anastheologist sp? that I had COPD. Not two weeks later I had my gall bladder and appendix out and was told the same thing by the anastheologist sp?. My question is if I do have it how do I go about finding out for sure. By my pc doctor or referal to a specialist. I am very concerned at this point. I have been a smoker for over 20 years, bad i know. I have tried quiting so many times I 'm a pro at it. Now I really want to do something about it I just don't know how rolleyes ......

C.O.P.D. refers to a whole lotta lung ailments, from Bronchitis to Emphysema
and I sure hope that's not you have...
and that there are a wide assortments of treatments for C.O.P.D. from inhalers to oxygen

thanx chartreux. i will go and look at the asthma place. and to chutz who was so kind the other day i went to the site you told me to try and you were right it was very helpful. i found a book aptly named "c.o.p.d for dummies" which i am going to buy on weds when mum and i goto town for our fortnightly retail therapy. thanx

hi poco. i've only just been diagnosed with c.o.p.d in the last month. you will only know for sure after you have had chest x-rays, breathing tests and lung function tests. i have also been a smoker for 20 yrs and went on to roll-up about 6 months ago which mademecut down a lot. now hearing that if i dont give up the disease will progress a lot faster, and knowing if i do stop it will slow it down,that enough of a kick in the backside tomake me top. i got 3 beautiful grand-daughters,hopefully i'll get to see them growup.

Chartreux.... Thanks so much for the websites and info. That was so nice of you and helpful. It really scared me when they told me I had COPD. That is very serious and irreverseable. I do need to research the sites you gave me in depth. I appreciate it your thoughtfulness very much :-) !

 

Nextasy65....Thank you so much for your response. It meant a great deal to me. I go to me pc doc this month and will talk to them about getting tests for COPD. If I do have this and even if I don't I do think it's time I really find a way to quit smoking before I do more do damage to my lungs. I have 3 children and look forward to grandchildren someday. I have tried so many times to quit I am very intimadated my it. So I don't know how but I have to try to finally kick the habit. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness!
