As a group fibromites are notorious for shallow breathing. Don't know why this is but it has been observed over the years and I find it to be true in myself. Shallow breathing leads to poor oxygenation of the cells, decreased carbon dioxide/oxygen exchange, fatigue and elevated pain levels. There is a simple treatment, it's self taught and it's FREE!
It's called diaphragmatic breathing, otherwise known as tummy breathing or baby breathing. If you watch a baby sleeping on its back you will see a perfect example of this type of breathing. Their little tummy goes up and down but the rest of the body stays the same. If you are sitting down you can do it by inhaling through your nose and making your tummy go in and out but NOT LETTING YOUR SHOULDERS RISE! Inhale a large breath that makes your tummy stick wayyy out and hold it for a second or two, then exhale slowly through pursed lips. Three or four of these should do it.
Using this deep breathing technique while waiting at red lights, in the grocery store, while waiting for a page to load... etc. will lead to higher levels of oxygen in your bloodstream, help fight fog, lower your blood pressure and help you lessen your fatigue levels. Lower fatigue leads to less pain. Like I said, it's FREE so it's worth a try!
