VERY painful tounge!

 I have a really strange new thing going on.  Since last Wednesday, my tounge has developed strange, almost raw feeling spots on it.  For lack of a better description, it feels like it has been shaved and has razor burn.  As wierd as it sounds, I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this.  The only thing different is that I have been taking Chantix to stop smoking (3rd week and so far successful!!) If anyone has any ideas I would be eternally grateful as this is really impairing my abitily to eat!!!!

This has happened to me.  My remedy is strange but it has helped others.  I put straight rum in my mouth and swish it around and then spit it out.  It will burn at first but the it numbs it.  It kills the bacteria and is usually gone within a day or two.  I will do this like twice a day.

 

When my children were little and would get canker sores, I would dip a Q-Tip in rum and put it on the canker sore and it would go away.  The kids knew it would sting for a minute but they still would come and ask me to do that to get rid of the sore.  See if that helps you.

Thanks....I have never heard of the rum, and I don't think it is a side effect of the Chantix, but I will check it out. I kinda figured it wasn't that because I have been taking it for about 3 weeks, and haven't had this problem yet.

I have Crohn's disease and would get the sores in my mouth so I tried it because of the alcohol in it.  Plus I like the flavor of rum!  LOL  It really does seem to work.  We had a member several months ago having this problem and she tried the rum and it worked for her.  It's quick and cheap!  LOL

Is your mouth dry and do you breathe through your mouth at night??? My tongue gets cracks in it at night from being so dry. I have a place on it now that is sore. When it gets really bad I can see the cracks.

for me i get the feeling like its burnt even though its not.. or i ate too much sore candy...but it usually goes away.. i would use listerine or salt water to rinse my mouth.. it goes away... since i can't use rum.. since it interacts with meds... but it does the same thing

When i quit smoking I had a few problems with my tongue getting sore.  Part of your problem may be that your tongue is becoming "unnumb"-for lack of a better word.  The tongue becomes coated & numb from years of nicotine & other chemicals.  That's why food really starts tasting better after a few days  or so.  I had smoked for 31 years & really noticed a difference in my tongue.  I don't think this is the main problem you are having but it may contribute to it.  Congrats on your success with quitting.  It is one of the hardest things I ever did.  Good for you.   Nice to meet you, hugs, Denise
