Going to my hearing

hi lateeda,

i'm sorry i don't know this already, but what type of hearing are you going to? i have some experience with hearings, but only certain kinds.

ahhh, ok. well, i've never had one of those myself, but my father had one 16 years ago or so. i did have to fill out a ton of paperwork on his mental and physical abilities, as did his doctors (he had to have a couple of different doctor's letters stating that their medical opinion was that he was permanently disabled) and i think that's basically what his hearing was for. he was going for permanent disability due to parapelegia, though, and so maybe that's a bit different? i'm sorry i really don't know exactly how it works.

as for the anxiety, i get that all of the time and about the only thing i've found that works is deep breathing and focusing my mind on my kids. i have a "i can do this for them" mantra that i say over and over to myself when i get really anxious about something. that and "this too shall pass".

Hi I'm anna. Am new to the forum. My son helped me get on after trying to find a Support Group . I could not figure out how to get to message boards or forum

Have had fibro since 1995 - diagnosed in 1997. What a toll it has taken on my marriage (divorced now) my three kids, out of house now; and work.

I have tried many things and find that depression is on my shoulder as is pain.
could someone tell me how to enter information about diagnosis & meds

Read many of you are taking malic + ? What brand would you suggest. Am waiting to get into a rheum dr....

The SS, Lateeda...helps if you have someone go along with you or hire an atty who just takes a %. I am off of it now but went that route 5 yrs ago. Hang in there. You can do it.

Hi lateeda and anna and welcome to the family. Click on control panel and go to profile and at the bottom it has a place for signature and you can put your info in. At least I think that those are the correct steps, hehe.

 

Lateeda read the fibro 101 thread, second on first page, and there is a lot of info in there including info on malic acid and magnesium that many have had good luck with. I can't take it myself but many get it from Puritan.com.

 

I have not gone through the SSI but I think I will apply after the first of the year. I'm lucky in the fact that one of my DILs works in a law firm and will be able to help me. I also have anxiety so I understand what you are saying.

 

Read as much as you can, ask questions and vent when you need to and we will be here for you.

I am sorry that the only thing I can tell you is good luck. I did not see if you had a lawyer to go with you or not. I really hope you do. My husband is waiting for his appointment to see a judge, but we found a local attorney or specializes in Disability cases and they only take the ones they can win so we are hopeful. Just bothers us that all the paperwork says it can take 6 to 12 months to get our appointment and then we only get a 20 day notice of when, so it is - sit wait and then jump through hoops. Sometimes I really hate all the red tape, but with the economy right now I am more afraid of the frauds who are going to abuse the system and just make it even harder for those in real need.

Best of luck at your hearing. I hope you get all your backpay and approved.

Funny you should ask about this as my spouse went before the judge just last week. He has also been waiting about 2-21/2 years.He does not have fibro but I imagine that these hearings are pretty standard. This is what happened with him:

His representative met with him and "prepared" him before the hearing. Your lawyer may do this as well. We went in before the judge. The judge asked him questions about his condition, prior employment and what his job duties were, and how his condition affects his daily life as well as how it affected his job and what led to his unemployment. Then, his rep asked him questions. There was a vocational expert present that goes through a list of jobs that you could hold in "hypothetical" situations and then asks which jobs you which you could hold considering your medical condition(s). It was not confrontational and was informal to a degree. It is not open to the public. My advice is to tell it like it is- how your condition affects you and why it prevents you from working. Don't over state things but don't try to gloss things over either. Sometimes, chronically ill people tend to downplay there illness depending on what emotional state they are in. I think that my husband's hearing went as well as it could have. They have 90 days to make a decision but the rep stated that a lot of the time you receive a decision before that. Oh, and they do record the session so that the judge can refer back to it if needed. There is a recorder there that types and records the session. I hope that this helps. I thank you for the info. I must have misunderstood the letter from SS. I have alot of trouble with brain fog so it doesnt surprise me. I sure hope you are right. It does make sense going back to the application date, which was March 2007 for me.
