Just wanted to let everyone know that you won't here from me for a few days. 

Here in Kentucky we have been in a ice storm yesterday and it is pouring the snow today. 

We will be out of electricity probably for the next 3 or 4 days. 

My dh and I are about crazy from boredom but I am getting some rest.

We have a generator but we can't keep it going for long at a time or it will burn it up. 

We are supposed to have another snow coming in Friday, so it doesn't look very good for us right now.

Our internet and cell phones have even been out so even when the generator is on I can't e-mail anyone.

I miss all of you and look forward to hearing from you all again.

Keep us in your prayers.

Shannon, I just saw this on the news this morning. So many people affected! Take care of yourself the best you can- and continue to get some rest, we'll be here when you get back!

Pile on those blankets and stay warm.  Hopefully you will get power back soon.  I'm assuming you are using the generator to post this.  I have two children in Cleveland in that mess, too!  You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

We have lots of power outages where I'm from. Not so much ice.

Hope your power is restored soon. A couple of years ago we were without power for 6 nights after heavy winds. Got pretty old. It was like camping out but indoors. lol .... at least the gas fireplace and hot water heater worked.

I had a 6 hour day outage when I was a kid... long time for no power.. our village actually brought generators to everybody's houses to make sure our frozen food didn't all go bad.

We're just getting lots and lots of snow here. They are talking about 12-18 inches where I am at. Stay warm. Take a big blanket, throw it in the dryer and wrap up. Hey that sounds like a good idea, I will have to do that after I venture out for milk.

Sorry Shannon!!!  I hope the storm ends very soon.  We got hit with lots of snow overngiht..and it is still snowing this afternoon, but ice storms are much worse in my opinion as the problems from the ice build up can cause problems for days and days.

We got about a 1/4 inch of sleet and 9 inches of snow. My kids have been out of school for 2 days (which means I've been off work). I cant handle driving in the snow...WAYYY too much for my anxiety.

Shannon, I'm sure you can't see this because you're out of power.. but good luck, stay as warm as possible.. and that goes for everyone else struggling through this wintery mess!!

I get to check my mail and the forum about twice a day when he has the generator running. 

 

Right now everything is closed down because of no electricity so he had to drive about 40 miles to Bowling Green to buy enough gas for our generator.

 

Even our nearest Wal-mart is closed.  Can you imagine that?

 

I'm still hanging in there though.  I've read more the last two days than I have in a year.

oh, shannon! how awful! i just read that there are going to be people affected by this storm who will probably go without power until mid february!!??!! i REALLY hope you are not one of those people!!!!

try to stay warm and gets lots of rest-hope you have some good books around, too!

i'm praying that your power comes back on very soon!

I had a whole message typed and tried to incorporate a picture of our ice storm and lost the whole message.

 

Can anyone tell me a simple way of putting a photo in my message?

 

We are still hanging in there, but I'm bored out of my skull. 

 

We are still without electric and are having to boil our drinking water.  We were told to draw enough water to hold us for a day or two and now we have a tiny little stream coming out.  We have enough to barely flush the commode.

 

Today we went to Bowling Green to find some more gas for our generator.  Our local Wal-mart is letting three people in at a time for bare neccessities and cash only.  The Bowling Green Wal-mart was out of bottled water, mantles for lanterns, propane for Coleman Stoves etc.  We have a Coleman Stove and a Coleman Grill that we've been cooking on, but when we run out of propane that is all she wrote.

 

I still feel like we are blessed indeed because a lot of people don't have any heat or even food to eat.  The Red Cross has set up a place at our community building and people are trying to survive at it.  We heat with a gas fireplace and gas wall heaters so we are staying warm.

 

We have a roof over our head, food and warmth, what more could I ask for?

 

God is good and he is still watching over us.  With him nothing is impossible.  I'm hoping and praying this mess will soon be over and we can get back to normal again.

 

I'll get back to everyone whenever we have the generator on again.

Shannon,

Hope you get your power back on soon. Sounds like this has really messed up alot of places. My mom lives on the southern tip of Illinois. It is 45 minutes to Kentucky. She got lucky. They had ice and snow approx. 9", but she only lost power for a few hours.

At least you guys have heat and a way to cook. Be careful and stay warm. I'll pray that power will be restored soon.

I remember days without electricity your so lucky to have a generator Shannon. I probably should check supplies in case mine and Margie's luck runs out before the winter is over. We haven't had our one good snow storm yet this year. Keep your fingers crossed Margie. smilewinkgrin

Marlee, that's funny because Larry and I were just talking about that very thing today.  Used to be when we had an ice storm that lasted very long we would see numerous babies being born nine months from it.

 

I guess that's all they have to do to keep them busy.  I can understand after a week of this.  Too bad we're too old for a baby nine months from now.

 

We were told last night that it might be two weeks into February before we get electric back.

 

In meantime we have started watching tv with the generator running.  At first he was afraid it would burn it up, but we have learned it won't hurt it so we've watched a lot of movies.

WOW!!! There will a big population explosion down there if it is off that long. I hope you have found lots of fuel for your generator. I have a little battery TV that I bought for Ken, after going to a motel so he could watch TV, after a tornado took out 13 electric poles near us several years ago. Of course it will be trash after they change to digital but it is also a radio. I'm not a rough it kind of woman so being without electricity gets to me real fast.

 

My heart does go out to all the people down there that don't have generators.

Glad you are safe, but sorry about the boredom.  I watched the news this morning...and I hope you dont keep that generator in the garage!!  A whole family perished in Kentucky for leaving the generator running in the garage...I didnt know that caused carbon monixide...and obviously many others dont either.

Stay safe...I will keep my fingers crossed that you dont have to wait a couple of weeks to get your hydro back on.

We are still with out electricity.  We have one more 5 gallon can of gas left before we have to go find somewhere to buy some more. 

 

They haver closed every restaurant down around us because of the boil water advisory.  Some people are without water too.

 

The ice finally melted off the trees and lines today, but there is so many lines down that it doesn't make a difference now. 

 

This is the second worse storm in history since they started taking records. 

 

I'm still so much better off than a lot of people.  BTW our generator is in an outbuilding that isn't attached to the house.  I heard about the family that had died with the generator in their garage.  How sad.

 

There is still a lot of people camping out at the community center.  I know how tiresome and bored they must be.

 

We also have a friend that is in the hospital at Elizabethtown that might be dying of bone cancer.  We went to spend some time with him yesterday and had a big buffet meal at Golden Corral.  I really pigged out, especially on their homemade yeast rolls..........THE VERY BEST.

 

We had been afraid to run the hot water heater with the generator, but today we broke down and tried it and believe it or not even got a hot shower. 

 

We're sitting on top of the world right now, and even smell better, so God is still blessing us.

 

The ones that believe in prayer, keep praying for us.  With his help we will make it through this trial and come out stronger than ever.

My nephew down there is without power too Shannon. It's good they have power in E town. They closed the only Golden Corral in this area and I so loved their rolls. How many did you take home???

 

I heard that 7 people have died so far from the storm, how sad.

 

I don't know about down there but it is suppose to get up to 45 here today so that should help melt the ice if you guys get the warmth. I might take Krissy for a walk if it gets that warm. smilewinkgrin

 

Glad you both smell better.
