Wyld,
I've told this story many times, but I don't mind telling it again. Actually, your story sounds almost exactly like mine. My teeth began to break at the gumline and just started rotting out (and it was not from lack of care). No one else in my family has dental problems except me. I really think it may be a fibro (or some other auto immune) thing.
Anyway, my self esteem was horrible. I really did feel like I looked like a monster. I never smiled or let my teeth show when I was talking. During the Xmas season of 2007, I came home to SC (I was living in CA at the time), and my parents helped me get dentures. It was an office that just did dentures, and it was at an extremely low price (compared to regular dentists). I had to have 17 teeth pulled (BTW-these were parts of 17 teeth-they were all broken off), and I got the "high end" dentures. Actually, most of the money went into pulling the teeth. But, everything came to about $1500 (the dentures were only about $500 or so).
This was one of the best things I could have ever done. My self esteem shot up, and I got my smile back. It was so worth it to me. BTW-I was only 36 years old at the time.
If your dentist has told you that you need dentures, then you need them. Some people don't understand that crowns can't fix every dental problem. Yes, dentures are a last resort, but you sound like me-there was no fixing the "teeth" I had left. BTW-if you want to email me on a personal level, I would be more than glad to talk about this with you.
I hope everything goes well for you. Good luck, and hopefully, you'll be smiling soon!
