My surgery is tomorrow

As some of you know (I've posted before) tomorrow I'm having a double-mastectomy-reconstruction having had breast cancer 12 years ago. I'm pretty nervous today - it's an 11-hour surgery and I have this history of emetophobia (fear of vomiting). Even though the anethetist on the phone reassures me they'll give me a cocktail of anti-emetic drugs when I wake up it still freaks me out. Dying doesn't freak me out and neither does the thought of pain! I just hate feeling nauseous...well, more than hate it...I fear it.

Anyway, my fibromyalgia is really under control with the 3 drugs I'm on now. I was just about to consider going back to work full-time (or at least trying it - I'm half time now for the past year)...but then I got called for the surgery.

I hope that I recover from this (they say I'll be off for 2 months) and my fibro won't be any worse. I pray to God for that.

Anyway, if you're a religious person, please pray for me tomorrow (and today) Oh ya - and the day after that - pray I'm not NAUSEOUS! lol

This community has been a real help to me over the past few months - thanks to everyone.

Of course, I will keep you in my prayers and send gentle hugs your way. A friend of mine had BC and a double mastectomy, about five years ago, with reconstruction, and let me tell you, she looks and feels AWESOME! Amazing what can be done!

K9 it is great that you are able to have this surgery. Prayers are with you and your docs. Try to concentrate on how great you are going to look after this.

 

I use to get sick after surgery but haven't after the past two or three so they must be doing something different. I hadn't thought about this til you brought it up, just thought I was getting lucky.

I'll hold thoughts of you close to my heart tomorrow!!! I know you'll do just fine. Like Marlee, my past 2 sugeries have gone well with no vomiting.. that used to be a problem for me too. They've come a long way baby!!
I just know you'll feel so much better when all is said and done.

I will be thinking of you during your surgery, and I pray that all goes well. I also hope that you won't vomit (BTW-that condition you have is very interesting-sorry, but medical things interest me). It's easy for me to say, "don't worry," so I'll never say that. Just know that your fibro family will be with you during and after your surgery. Best wishes.

Hi K9! You will be in my prayers. My Dad used to get really sick after surgeries and these days he's fine afterwards.
