I have been having these attacks where I feel really icky, kind of sick to my stomach, light headed, and my face gets very red and I feel really hot.  I have checked my temperature and I am fine.  It is really hard to explain how i feel but I don't functions well through them.  The attacks seem to come out of nowhere but don't last very long, maybe an hour or two and then I'm fine.  I can recall having these attacks for some time but never thought to much about them because it would happen maybe once or twice a year but for the past few weeks the attacks have happened several times a week.  I don't know if it's a fibro thing or something else.  I'm never sure when I need to talk to the doctor because fibro does so many weird things and I don't want to waste my time or my doctors.  So I guess my question is, does this happen to anyone else?  If so, what do you do for it?

My face also turns really red and I feel like I'm burning up but I'm actually of normal temperature. I also get a horrible headache. Does the room start spinning when this happens to you? I can't even focus on something, my sight just bounces around everywhere. Does that happen to you?

My vision does get fuzzy and I have a hard time focusing.  The room spins if I try to move around but I usually don't feel well enough to do that.  As far as the headache, I have so many of them I'm not sure if they are connected to this or not.

Meggie, with what you described, I think its possible you are in the beginnings of a flare- I used to have just what you describe, they seemed to all pound me at once and I was flustered, frustrated, and severely out of whack. I don't know what type of tests you have had. I would suggest a CBC with all the tests that come with that- SED rate, ANA, etc. It could be that these tests indicate inflammation, or lack of inflammation- the results may lead a doc in a specific direction and help with meds. You may have already done these things :) I did this type of investigation when I was first sick with no answers from lots of docs. To me FM has been like a huge zigsaw puzzle with some of the pieces missing and those pieces that were there, doctors disputed if they really existed, or if I were imagining them LOL I suggest that you get a small notebook and begin jotting down all the things that bother you throughout the day- after a few days, look for patterns to emerge- for example one pattern that I found was everyday around 4pm I felt feverish, my lips itched, and my ears burned and turned bright hot red. Take this with you to your doc appts and this will help you be more specific answering their questions. Again, in mu experience, being able to have a discussions with the doc about specific symptoms helped the docs take me more seriously and find treatment options quicker. Good luck!

i get them also my face turns red i cant think i dont even feel like i am in my own body. in fact my boyfriend gets really worried when it happens to me cause my whole body gets hot to the touch. i just take a cooler shower and lie down moving seems to make it worse. sorry i dont have more advice on it but i am with you holding your hand

Hi Meggie...

Sounds like others have similar symptoms as you do. That's reassuring. One thing I would suggest doing is try to explain them to your doc on your next visit. Alone it's likely nothing to be concerned about. But your doc should have it in his notes so he has an overall picture of your health/symptoms to evaluate at any given time. If it's hard to explain the timing and/or description of these attacks it would pay to keep a journal. Many folks keep a pain journal when they are first getting diagnosed and often do it when their fibro symptoms change. Below is a link to a journal template you can copy. Fill out one each day, if you can remember...lol... and add your attacks to the comments section. You also have places to list what happens what times of day so maybe you or the doc will pick up a pattern in relation to other events in your days... or maybe not. But I would want to check if it were me.

Hi Meggie,

The first thing that hits me is a panic attack. They can cause the stomach to do just that. Do you feel this could be happening? When I feel an anxiety attack beginning I immediately start the deep breathing and do mu utmost to calm myself. Just thoughts. When you mention fuzzy vision that can very well be anxiety.

Chutz is dead on with the advice of letting the doc know. Also the pain journal to help clarify your condition to him.

Good Morning Everyone,

Thanks for all of the wonderful advice.  I have an appointment already scheduled for sometime in early April (my doc evaluates me every three months) so I think I will do the journal suggested.  Hopefully something will standout has the cause.  I do think more bloodwork wood be a good idea also.  As far as anxiety, I have never had a problem with that but I don't know what one feels like so maybe.

Meggie, have you checked your blood pressure with this happens. It is very similar to what happens to me when my bp goes up.

I have not checked my blood pressure but I will with the next attack.  What do you do when this happens or do you just ride it out?

You know, I just feel sick or unwell at times. I accept the fact that this comes with having a chronic illness. Therefore it is normal even though unexpected.

Sigh, this can be a difficult illness to live with. However, I have found it is not just fibro alone. Any chronic illness can make one feel this way.

So, cheer up, you are normal. lol

I get this feeling, too. For me it's usually the beginnings of a flare and I take it as a sign that it's time to slow down a bit.

I get that A LOT!!! Several times a day. It seems like it's always lurking around. I get a little sick to my stomach when it happens. This has been going on for a while. I have a lot of anxiety issues too. I always just thought it was a hot flash due to menapause and figured it's just the way it is.. but since some of you younger folks are having the same thing I guess it's just another joy of Fibro. GREAT!! Not!!!

Sounds like I'm not alone.  I'm still going to talk with my doctor and have him run some tests but I have a feeling I know how that will turn out.

Patti, wow, I can't imagine going through that several times a day.  Menopause could have something to do with it.  I was actually tested for early menopause, everything came out ok but I am at that age where symptoms can start. 

Another thing that came to mind is my ear problems.  I have a lot of damage to one of my ears due to so many infections when I was younger.  That ear hurts a lot and feels full (it always feels that way and have problems with telling which direction noise is coming from); maybe I have some fluid in it.  If I continue to have attacks, I'm going to try to get my doctors appointment moved up.

Meggie, I started menapause really early.. I was about 35. I think I'm finally done with all that mess, but it took about 15 years. The doctors just wouldn't beleive me when I told them I thought that's what was going on back then. My mom & sister both started menapause early.. so what made them think I wouldn't.. Sheesh!! All that $$ and all those years don't make doctors as smart as they should be.. eh?
