Hi Susanne!!
Welcome to the Forum!!! You'll find tons of helpful people here that are very willing to help!! They are non-judgemental and enjoy sharing ideas. We're all here for the same thing.. help and support!
First, let me answer Baloo's question about a TENS unit, that's an electric stim. unit that sends impulses to the effected muscules but tensing them up and releasing them. Most PT's and Chiros use them to help release a muscule spasm.
OK.. back to your question, Susanne, is FMS progressive. Interesting question to which there are little to no answers. One thing I do know is that its not degenerative. As for progressive, I think it is, but so is the aging process. As I've gotten older my painful areas have gotten worse. Like Marlee, I have a lot of pain in my hands, but I also have it everywhere else. I have a lot of back problems and when I'm in a fibro flare its MUCH worse in my back and hips.
As for the doctor issue. I agree with everyone else. Be honest. Let him/her know that you don't want to be labeled as a drug seeker, but a pain releif needer!!! I'm glad you've got a pain management doc. I don't have one of them, but my doc. does acupunture, I can't afford that treatment but he does understand that pain is real.. thank God!! I'm on tramadol, too. When its really bad I can take ibpurofen and that helps too. I also take amitriptyline to help me sleep and xanax to help with anxiety & sleep (which can throw me into a flare quickly).
Keep us up to date and informed, hope things get better!!
