I've been thinking of getting a handicap placard for my truck.

On my next visit with my pcp, I want to ask/file for one.  Have you?  Would it be possible for me, being its just FM?  confused

I hate going to any store and see that I have to park far mad when I'm have difficulty walking around that day, but I need to go to the store or even the dr. office.

I am going to apply for one and just use it on difficult days and places where I have to park far.  I just haven't talked to my doc yet.

Hi Lori!!

My sister got her placard after she got SSI disability.  She walks with a cane and has some serious back problems (she won't admit it.. but I know she has FMS too).  I'm not sure if you have to be on disability or not, but her doctor wouldn't give her one till she was "offically disabled". 

I would be courious to know if you have any luck with getting a placard, I sure could use one on a bad day.  And some of those HUGE stores are difficult to get around let alone walking all the way from the parking lot.

I have handicapped parking and got it before I got my disability.  The pain from fibro is very much like the pain from rheumatoid arthritis.  Many have been misdiagnosed with arthritis and it turns out they really have fibro.  Pain is pain...the name of the illness shouldn't matter. 

 

When I needed to renew the placard when I moved to Florida, my doctor said that I had pain from arthritis.  LOL  I had no problem getting the parking pass and now I only have to renew it online.

I have one. I started with a temp handicap card, then got a full handicap card. Go to your motor vehicle department and get the application. Get into the doctors talk to her about it and have her/him sign it while your there. It does make a big difference when you really hurt. On days I can walk I park further away so those who might need it more than I do that day can have the spot.

how or where would you apply for one. i am appling for disability and i agree walking far is not fun. i have turned back and went home if i can not park close,or drive around until one cames open.

i am down here visitibg my family adn my sisiter just blow my mind with one of her comments, she said if i cut out glutens that it will cure me from fibro.... scream here

Griffin - why don't you suggest to your sister that she cut out gluten and see if it cures her thoughtlessness. (sorry, couldn't help myself)

I got my handicap placard just like the above people - go to DMV to pick up app, then take it to your doctor. Mine was very accomodating. Then back to DMV where they gave it to me, and I can renew every 10 years. It's that easy.

Hey all, thanx for the help. I checked out our (CA) DMV website and found the form on-line.

Now I hope I don't get a crazy look from my doc. :-)

I got a form signed by the dr. and went to the DOT and got my placard. I try to make sure I never take the last handicap parking place, because I would hate to have someone come with a wheelchair and not be able to find parking. I also only use it when I am having a bad day, so a lot of the time I use regular parking spots. Diane
