Fibro Newby

It seems I have had the symptoms of this disorder since I was a child. I was just diagnosed last fri. Only because she had no other options but to hand me over the diagnoses and let me learn to live on some level again. The past three years have been spent with my legs giving out, on stairs, on the ice, coming out of the bathroom. On crutches twice, which I can not manage and no doctor would listen. Each bump, crash and bruise became a new trigger point. MY worst one is under my bra strap on the right side. I have all of the trigger points and then some. I have had had x rays, mri's cat scans, been blown off, screamed at by one doc. Told I do not look that sick. It is all my bipolar, I am a hypocondriac. YOU name it. I went this route as a teenager for the bipolar and it was a hellish place to revisite. When the doctor got done trying to have me do all the tests yet again and me telling her "i am not leaving this office till I have an answer, being very firm with her. She told me it is Fibro. That was all and a go ahead for aqua therapy. No diet ideas, no ideas on pain managment. Just this is what you have, here is the lyraca, and get out please. Thank god my regular doc is Amazing. With her I would have never gotten to the ruematologist. Now it is a matter of making everyone around understand I am not lazy, I am in pain all the time, never ending pain. Even now I am again crying because it seems this road I am on never stops veering over a cliff. I am 33 and feel 90. I went from being a dancer, a writer and an english major to a lump on the couch with a heating pad. I can barely do yoga these days, If I walk someplace I know I can not walk home. I do not drive so this is a serious issue. If an appointment isnt right on the bus stop I may not make it, or I have to beg for rides because medicaid doesnt cover cab fair in my area. My only bright hope is that I can still do my beadwork on good days.
Also side note why are all the Fibro meds also psych meds? this is not a psychiactric issue but is being treated as one. That really bothers me. I am so sorry for the long post. I am out of flexoral and know sleep will not be there for me tonight. Thank you for giving me a place I can just let all this out to others who understand.

And welcome to the forum. I'm happy you found us and I am also happy that you were finally diagnosed with fibro so you have a hold of something tangible now. Like so many whose history has had awful pain and no one to listen or no doctor to say what is wrong, it is difficult getting through day to day and trying to explain to family and friends why you suffer so. I have had this DD for almost thirty years and it has gotten much worse during these past eight years. I still have a hard time explaining and complaining to those close to me. I see a pain management specialist now and she treats me with dignity and helps me manage my pain, for which I am eternally grateful.

Please continue to post here. Vent, yell, do whatever you have to do. We are here to listen and will support you all the way. Glad you are here!!

Welcome to our family that is always here to help one another. It is just amazing the understanding you will receive here.

As for your psyche question this may shed some light for you. The neural pathways that carry pain signals to the brain are often shared pathways with depression. Now that is a very simplistic explanation. BUT by treating depression with known drugs it often relieves the pain also. It is a secondary process.

Also this may very well be a psyche issue after all. There is a contingency of experts that think the entire syndrome is psychosomatic. Before that makes you jumpy, there is strong evidence that the pain is a result of repressed rage in our unconscious minds. Now I am just telling you what many so called experts are working on.

Anyway we are here to try to help each other and we do a very good job at that. We are all searching for answers and one day this will be figured out!!!

Hi Angeline and welcome to the family. I'm sorry you have fibro at such a young age, I didn't get it til I was older. I like to think they will find a cause and cure or at least better meds to control it. There are others on the forum that have had fibro since they can remember. We have to reprioritize our lives and make every little bit of energy we have count.

 

Read the fibro 101 thread, second on first page, it contains lots of great info. Ask questions and vent when you need to and we are here for you.
