Fibromites

I have a strange reaction on my skin on mostly my neck and chest when I am having a bad fibro moment or if I am to warm , nervous or have to be in the sun. I get what looks like something between a red rash and welts at the same time. I know another fibromite who does the same thing.

Does anyone know what causes this?

Larkspar, I have heard about a shawllike rash around the neck & shoulder area.  It is a sign of Lupus.  Or it could be DermatoMyocytis which is a AI disease affecting the muscles that also is affecting the skin.  Both of these AutoImmune diseases cause people to be sensitive to the sun.  Has your Doctor checked you out for any AI diseases?  Talk to your Dr about this or have him refer you to a Rheumatologist.  Hopefully it is just another of the hundreds (it seems) symptoms of Fibro.  I hope you find out soon.  Let us know.  There is a Lupus forum here at the healing well, you should check it out & ask this question.  Hugs, Denise

PS Are you taking any meds that make you sensitive to the sun?

No I am not taking any meds that would do that.
It is the strangest thing. One minute I will be bright red and blotchy then a few minutes later it is gone.
It doesn't leave and marks or swelling once it's over it is like it never happened. Very strange. Oh and it doesn't itch at all. I have always been light sensitive on my own though. I do get bad migraines if I have to be out in the sun for long.

You need to speak with your Dr & see if these AI diseases were looked into.  Also, realize that if your bloodtests came back as negative that doesn't mean you don't have one or more.  It will sometimes take a few times of being tested before you know for sure.  But, list all of your other symptoms so your Dr will have a well rounded look at what is going on.  My daughter has Lupus & Dermatomyocitis & Fibro.  Her symptoms really overlap each other so much it is hard to tell which is flaring sometimes.  And there are other AI diseases that have the same symptoms but as I said earlier give you Dr all the symptoms & let him figure it out.  Do check out the Lupus forum here or google Lupus & check out the symptoms.  Do you see a Rheumytologist?  If not they are the ones who are in the know about these types of illnesses.  Not all are good so shop around.  Hugs, Denise

My original Fibro dx was with a Rheumytologist. There was a later time when my GP thought that I had Lupus and sent me to a Dermatologist when I was having another sort of rash. He said it was dry skin. He gave me a script of a cream and it cleared up. Nothing more has ever persued after that.
The medical facililty where I am is not known for being the best in the world and I am always a little hesitant about seeking help with the availible MDs there. It is more frustrating than helpful.
I will take your advice though and do some research on the subject.
