My doctor has to be the absolute best EVER!!  I went in today to work with him to come up with a treatment plan, and not only did he listen to everything I said he mostly agreed with me and helped me understand every aspect of feeling better.  He did give me RX for a narcotic pain med as well as a non-narcotic pain med, valium, and gabapentin.  He offered Lyrica, but I am not ready to try that yet I am a little leary of it as it is so new still.  He supported me in this 100%!!  He also supports me using acupuncture, massage, and physical therapy and is willing to write me any referrals I need to get them covered.

I found him by pure chance when I was turned away from my last doctor's office in tears because I was hurting so bad and told that they couldn't help me with the pain at all.  Someone mentioned finding and osteopath so I started researching them and found one nearby that is fabulous.  He always listens, remembers me, talks to me like I am a human and not just another case.  With him in my corner I am feeling really good that we will find what will work for me.

Ember those angels in white coats are out there and some get lucky and find one, I'm glad you did. I have two docs my GP and rheumy that don't doubt me and respect the knowledge I bring to them that I learn on here. My rheumy was so nice when I told him I had a med phobia, most docs don't understand why I have a hard time trying this med and that med.

 

I'm so happy for you cause it does make having this DD easier when you have docs that you can talk to about it and work together with them.

 

I have a referral for massages and it only cost $30.00 for an hour.

Marlee, I am the same way with meds. My body tends to react differently to medications than most people, especially antidepressants. I have had docs in the past tell me if I am not willing to take what they offer then I must not be in that much pain...it sucks hardcore. I am so grateful to my doc now.

If anyone is in the Vancouver, WA or Portland, OR area and is looking for a good doc who will listen to you and genuinely cares about you let me know and I can give you my docs info.

Wow! I wish I could find a good doc. My rheumy diagnosed me, got mad because I couldn't handle any of the meds he tried and then told me to only come back if I have swelling in my joints because he just deals with arthritis! Oh, he also told me every time I saw him that I was going to be fine. I AM NOT FINE! In fact, I'm the opposite of fine. The problem with this is that he's the only rheumy in Savannah under my insurance. Now I've been told by my gp that I should see a psychiatrist because he doesn't have a clue what to do. Why do the doctors think we are stupid and willing to settle for the masked "it's all in your head " comment? Sorry, I know this got off the topic a bit. I am glad that so many of you have great doctors. Take care.
