Need help finding a doc.

I'm in the Denver, CO area and I have been looking for a good doc. I thought I had one, but that's a long story that I'd rather not try and remember. Anyone from the area that can point me in the right direction?

Hey Scott,

My suggestion is contacting your local hospital and find out who's taking new patients.  I'm sure they'll give you a list.  When you call be sure to ask the receptionist if the doctor treats people w/fibro.  As I'm sure you know, there are some doctors that don't believe in fibro so its important to find a doc that does.  If you know anyone else that has the same problems that you have ask them who their doc is, hopefully they're taking new patients.  If you don't have any luck in that direction then call a local Physical Therapist and ask if they could recommend a good doctor that deals with chronic pain.

I don't live near you, but I've had good luck with a major research hospital affiliated with a university that is about 2 hours away from me.  If I can't find answers in my town, I will call the appropriate department (in this case rheumatology), speak to the receptionist or nurse, tell her my problem and ask which doctor within the specialty further specializes in my problem (in this case, fibro).  I've had very good luck trying this route.

 

I really like university/research hospitals because not only is there a lot of accountablilty, but if one doctor can't help, he can easily and quickly consult with or send you to another.

 

If you are unable to find the name of a good rheumy near you, you might investigate the university/research hospitals in your state.

I am from Denver, and lived most my life with Fibro there. I would take the suggestions of Austenfan, and pattipanda. I had a horrible time there, but that is probably because I didn't have the resources that is available now. Let me know if you find a good doctor, I go back there often and perhaps will come home when the time is right.

Another thought is to try to find an osteopath. They are like regular doctors, but they are more hands on and trained to take their time and treat the whole person instead of just the symptoms. Finding my osteopath has been amazing in helping me get my dx as well as coming up with treatment options.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will have to start looking into some of the hospitals in the area. I'm already being seen by Colorado University hospital, and I've hit a couple of dead ends there, but other very useful and helpful departments as well.
