I don't know about your other meds, but unlike the benzodiazapines, ie. Valium, Klonipin, Ativan, Xanax, Librium, Oxazapan, etc. Buspar is an anti-depressant. While the former work on anxiety by calming the CNS, Buspar increases the ammount of serotonin available to the neurons which in a round a bout way, might make you feel a "little" bit better. Some of the "real" anti-depressants also can help with anxiety, for some people. Not so much for me b/c I have been on SSRI's and Amyltriptilene, and Parnate, most of my life.
Pain causes anxiety. We suffer from learned helplessness. That's like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Our Sympathetic nevous system is on high alert, most of the time. We need a real anxiety directed medication to curb this constant feeling of not being able to settle down, always feeling like we gotta keep one foot on the floor in order to bolt if we need to. This is part of this Dam---- disease. There is a study of Fibromites vs. "normals" (whatever they are, ain't met one yet), let's say non-fibromites; measuring brain activity in terms of how Para-sympathetic vs. Sympathetic (Fight/Flight/Cortisol producing), activity is way high on the Fight Flight scale (anxiety) for Fibromites. This was posted earlier on this website by another member, maybe one of our dear moderators could "bump" it up for you. Basically, take this article to your doctor, tell him how you feel (Like, ever see the movie "Matchstick Men" with Nicholas Cage; if not, rent it, it's amunition to explain your plight). Tyno's back.
