Does the heat make anyone else hurt really bad??

Now that summer is practically on our doorsteps, it is getting a lot hotter out. Our house is pretty darn miserable because we live in an upstairs apartment. Does the heat and humidity make anyone else really miserable? I have been hurting really bad recently and feeling more tired and miserable. Is this normal? I didn't know if anyone else with fibro dealt with the same thing that I am dealing with. I could really use some advice on this. The heat is really hard on my hubby as well, so things have been really difficult. I need to know how to function and do what I need to do. I also need to know if this is normal for fibro or if something else could be going on cause my fibro to flare. Any advice on this would be really good. I really appreciate it.

The heat bothers me to.  I am a hermit crab in the summer.

Heat does bother me so I stay in air conditioning or in water.  I do hope you have good air conditioning in your apartment.  I lived in a third floor apartment that overlooked the parking lot when I was first married.  The heat poured off that lot and we roasted.  But, hopefully, your air conditioning will be good for you.

I live in the heart of "The South" in the US and I hate it. I try to walk to my college all year 'round, but the heat in the Summer just wears me out so much that I have to give in and drive. The college is only a half a mile away and I just can't stand it.

I've never liked the Summer, I've always been a Winter gal myself, but since developing fibro, I've come to loath the coming of Summer.

Cold affects me too. I use to love it and now I just can't bear to go out when it's cold out. It seems that I'm going to need to find a more temperate place to live.

I have a stand up air conditioner in my bedroom. I also have another computer in there if the office space gets too hot. I do not like sleeping in a hot room because I stay awake in it all night.

I have never liked hot weather even when I was a child.

However, I appreciate Seattle's summers because we get lots of sun and it is pretty dry for four months. Once it reaches the 80s though, I run for cover.

I spend more time in the pool on hot days; sometimes three hours straight.

I live in central Florida and it gets up into the 90's regularly. about a week and a half ago, my air conditioner broke. It hadn't rained in months. So I prayed for rain to cool things off while they worked on the unit for two days. Well, it rained and rained and rained and is still raining today. There are flood warning out in certain places!!! Be careful what you pray for. I'm thinking ark here pretty soon. lol.

But as far as the summer goes, I live inside my house every day. I don't venture out. I started taking vitamin D because of it, because I don't go into the sun anymore. But I cannot stand the heat at all. Use to love it as a kid, but that was many moons ago when I practically lived at the beach or in the sprinklers.

I don't hurt worse with the heat, but the rain is a different story. The changes in the barometric pressures really seem to affect my fibromyalgia very much. So while it cools things off, it increases my pain level.

My favorite season is the winter here in Florida. Cool, but not too cold.

I have noticed for years that the hot, humid summer weather makes me just miserable. Unlike all my friends I don't look forward to summer. I live in the far north in the U.S. and it's been beautiful, sunny and in the 60's for days now. I am comfortable in a summer top and lightweight capris. I dread real summer weather coming - I will feel so sick.

I am glad that I am not the only one that the heat seems to affect. I like it when it is in the low 70s and not too humid. I wish I could find a place like that. Here in Indiana, it is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. I need something in between. I have been so miserable. I was somewhat ill last night, and I have just not been feeling well at all. I feel really tired and in a lot of pain. The crappy thing is that I am a smoker, and I don't smoke in my house because of my son, so I have to go outside to smoke. I live in an upstairs apartment that is in the sun most of the day. Our AC really isn't all that great, it runs all day because it never gets cool enough in here to make it turn itself off, so, by night, it pops the breaker and it is so humid in here, even if it isn't particularly hot outside at night. We are going to try to get the AC fixed. I hope we can. We are broke, and our electricity bill is going to be through the roof. I would appreciate any prayers that I can get. Anyways. I am glad to know that I am not the only one going through all this. Thanks.

Thought I already posted on this topic, but yes. I cannot function hot. I have to get near damp sheets, put dear ole bed buddy in the freezer, wear all cotton clothes and not many at that. I would love an airconditioner, but I think they use a lot of power.

You might try a window AC unit. They aren't that expensive, and they really don't use all that much power. I believe they use less power than a traditional AC unit, so I would consider it.

Okay, let's try this again. I hate it when I send a post and find I'm not logged in.

 

Short version, no my body doesn't like the heat.

 

Donnaeil, what kind of air do you have in your bedroom??? We have to leave the whole house air on just to cool our bedroom which is a waste of money in the summer time. Our bedroom is in the front of the house so don't want to put a window unit in. In the winter we turn the heat down and use electric blanket but I don't think they make cooling blankets for household use. tongue

Hey Sassy! I can't take extremes of temperature in either direction. Summer heat and humidity make me feel awful and my feet and legs usually swell more. Winter cold exponentially increases my pain. Have you noticed an increase of symptoms when weather fronts and pressure changes come through? Lots of us can tell when the weather is going to switch around even before the weather man talks about it! Anywhooooo....... I usually take whatever measures I can to avoid worsening the FMS -- sometimes you just have to deal, but sometimes there are options.....

You know, a few weeks ago I would have answered no. However, we've had a lot of changes in the barometric pressure lately, and it's been super warm, more warm than it should be, alternately between windy, damp, cool weather and bluebird days like today. Absolutely beautiful weather, but it makes me sad because I feel miserable when I go outdoors. I used to be a beach bum, too! Now I love the feel of the cool wind on my hot skin, from the shade of the porch.

The heat kills me, I don't hurt anymore than normal, but I feel sluggish and sleepy and often the heat nauseates me, I think because of the meds. I wish it were 75* year round, but I live in KS, so if I don't like the weather I just need to wait 5 mins and it will change LOL

I do feel when the weather is going to change. Yesterday, it was gloomy, and it rained a little bit. But it wasn't muggy. It was cool, but not too cool, and it wasn't humid. There was a nice breeze the blew all day. Even though it was overcast, the temp felt almost perfect to me. Today, the weather is hotter and it is very sunny, and I have definately felt different. I feel more sluggish, and I feel like my legs and feet are swollen, even though they don't appear to be. Yesterday, I was able to clean, although I ended up doing too much. But I didn't feel completely miserable. Today, I just feel like crap pretty much. Our air is on, but it doesn't work very well.

I feel so sick in heat. In fact, I do very little outside in the summer when it gets hot. Thank heavens for central air! I would die without it.

We should all migrate to Seattle where it is damp and gray but NEVER too hot and never humid!

I have an indoor air conditioner that was manufactured by SHARP. It cost about 500 at costco but, it only costs an additional $30.00 per month on my air conditioning bill. Mine can cool a little over 600 sq ft and they have a smaller 400 sq ft one.

I think it pays for itself the first year because if I had central air, I would pay a lot more per month.

I find it very comfortable and pretty quiet. there are many other brands that work well but I got the best reviews for the Sharp.

You can go to Costco's web site and see other kinds of room air conditioners. the one I bought however, was only at the store. It also helps reduce pollen, dust, etc. in the house and, works as a good fan during the other times of the year.
