Curious to see how many are on SSDI?  I am starting to consider applying but don't want to quit my job unless I am sure I am to the point where I will get it.  In 2007 I quit a job in a factory making over $18 per hr. working 12 hr. rotating shifts cause I was in pain constantly.  I was being treated by a rheumy at the time but all she wanted to prescribe was lyrica which didn't help the pain and made me a little crazy with side effects.  I then tried working part time at several different jobs but the pain was just as bad.  I'm now working 29 hrs. per week as a home health aide but all the cleaning involved is making life hard.  I'm ok while I am moving but when I get home and sit down my body tightens up and I can't move without severe pain.  Can't move constantly gotta stop sometime.  I tried another rheumy where I tried 3 different anti-inflammatories, 3 different muscle relaxers and various things you either rub on or stick on.  She does not prescribe anything narcotic for pain so I think I'm at the end with her.  I'm gonna look for a pain doc next time.  I am now on neurontin 2xday and tramadol 100 mg 3xday.  These help but not enough.

Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, ddd.  I have xrays and mri's that show my diagnosis and have had lumbar and cervical fusion in 2006 plus 2 meniscal tears in left knee 2002 &2004.

Hi, sorry to hear about the run-around! You need to get a referral (either from your PCP or your rheumy) to go to a pain clinic where they can prescribe what will really help you. Find one that takes your insurance and then just tell them that you are going to see them and (matter of factly) you need a referral.

As far as the SSI/ SSD, I am close to finding out if I will receive benefits. It is my first attempt, so I am expecting a no but I would be ecstatic if they actually said yes. I havent worked for 6 months, my pain is alot better but still bad...prob partly from this stress. I am lucky to have disability insurance through my work to fall back on though!

Go get that referral! Good luck!

I have not been working since 2005, and just had my disability accepted this year. With all my myriad of symptoms there is no way i could commit to any hours of work, i am married and my husband works, but if i were to live on my own i could not afford it, with only my disability income. it sounds like you are suffering quite abit, would your doctors back you up and support you going on disability? I had to quit my job because i simply could not work, in any capacity, i really dont know what to tell you except if you are seriously thinking of it i would go through with it, i wish i could be of more help, but in my case getting disability was a long, stressful road, every state and individual case is different, but like i said if you think your health is getting worse and you have a harder time coping with your pain, i would apply as quick as possible........your friend dutchone

First time posting on Fibromyalgia forum, I usually stick to the Ulverative Colitis area but this subject has been on my mind a lot this year.

I only just thought to bring up the possibility of Fibro to my primary doctor, I always figured it was all just referred pain from the known problems I have going on. I've done tons of research in the last two months and I've decided to ask the doc about it, hopefully it will push me one step closer to relief.

With that said, it SUCKS to not be able to work, doesn't it?! Been volunteering/working since I was 10.  My pride took a but hit when I stopped working and I've tried temp jobs, part time job (with part time college each time) but I realize I need to focus on my health which means stayin home :( My mother suggested looking into SSDI. I know nothing about it. All I have heard is that it will be nearly impossible to be accepted since my husband is in the military (Don't they know the Army doesn't pay that well? lol)

I'll be checking back here hoping for additional info and I'll keep ya posted about what I find...

:-)Hi bsjaguar and welcome to the forum -- have found this to be a really great group! I am on SSI and have been for a while. I had to quit teaching which I absolutely grieved over, but I had no choice. SSI can take a while with automatic denials at times -- you just have to stick with it. shocked I was already not working when I applied. Not sure how that part of it works, but might be worth checking into. smilewinkgrin
Good luck to you on getting it quickly -- some folks do faster than others -- and keep us posted!

i have applied for CPP. It's like SSDI, for Canadians. I know they do everything in their power to try and make you give up. You just have to keep jumping hurtles. In the meantime, life is very hard. I was a professional, at the top of my field, how far I dropped was to cleaning motel rooms and a Recycling depot. Got fired from the latter. For heaven's sake, prisoners can stay on the job there. I couldn't keep up. I know leaning towards the physical sounds ludricrous, however, at least then I could come home and collapse in a chair. The profession I pursued meant making very important life decisions for children, and it never stopped. I mean, the stress was always there and did far worse damage than any physical ailment ever could. So, yeah, count me in on the disability checklist.
