Hi all, think good thoughts for me today...I have to go to a disability exam with a doctor I have never met (scary). I heard he will make me lift this and that and do all sorts of things to evaluate if I am disabled or not (double scary!!). ALOT if not ALL of my benefits ride on how this exam goes and I prob will have to go back to work if he says I am fit for it. shakehead

I am so super nervous! I have never wanted to fail an exam so much in all my life! hahaha

If anyone has been through one of these and has any last minute advice...Im all ears!!!

I have not done this but I need to be working on it. Even though I have talked to my GP about it and he says I'm 100% disabled it would be scary to have another doc examine me. Good luck lost in Philly and I hope you get a big fat F on it. tongue

been through it 16 years ago and i have no idea what is required now. Just be truthful and don't fake, they can tell that too. Good luck be praying for you to get disability.

I have never heard of this exam and I'm on disability!  Besides, I may be able to lift something today but I won't be able to move tomorrow!

 

I spread two lousy bags of mulch on Saturday and my shoulders and neck haven't been the same since.  You don't know what will kick in the fibro so this "exam" is unreal.  Boy, they really don't understand this illness, do they!

cry  I wish I could get some disability myself. Some days are better than other days. I hate feeling good one day and then doing something around my house and feel like crud the next day or two.

Like I'm feeling today. My whole body from neck/shoulders down my mid/to lower back and hips are just killing me.

I have to get my place ready for inspection because I'm on assisted housing. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to climb the 16 steps to my appartment.?  cry

Sending positive thoughts!

I've just transitioned onto Long Term Disability from work. It's been a HUGE relief. I just couldn't function at work right now - or even do the commute. My overall stress and anxiety levels are way down and that's helping me feel better in every way.

But just a heads up. When I finally got the paperwork last week - it was pretty rough. I worked my way thru school on a program where i worked a semester and took classes the next. So ... I'd worked/ gone to school for the last 40 yrs. Even though I haven't felt well for a long time - I had a real feeling of loss. Like confirmation of one more thing I can't do anymore.

I hope you end up in a situation that you can cope with and is realistic for you.

Hey lost in philly -- sure do hope your exam went well today! I had to do the same thing when I applied for SSI. They sent me a 'regular' doctor for a very cursory physical, and then I went to their psychologist for emotional exam. It was really scary for me, too, but SSI used to require you to see their own doctors -- well, doctors that they paid to do these exams. Still got turned down, but when I appealed, I found out that both doctors had certified me for disability! Just goes to show that SSI will really try your limits in order to make you want to give up. Not everyone gets this kind of miserable treatment, but lots of people do. So, hang tough!

Well, I've yet to have this exam, but my primary doc told me to skip my meds the day of the exam, not sure if I'm that brave or glutton for punishment LOL

Dear lostinphily,
I have applied for disability and got turned down twice. This time I got a lawyer. I had to have a psych eval from one of thier docs and the questions were not bad. Hang in there.
