Chiropractic Care, do you?

Does anyone seek chiropractic care in conjunction with your medical doctor? 

How often do you get a spinal manipulation done?  Mine only adjusts from shoulder to tailbone while I am laying flat on my tummy just about every week I'm there. 

Do you get the elec. stimulation pad thingy(can't remember the correct terminology)?  I do, with 8 pads at a time concentrating in whatever area is giving me the most trouble. 

Have you had a flare caused by your chiropractic adjustment?  I think I did a couple weeks ago when my mid back was giving me the "knife in the back" pain, which involve my ribs as well and my stomach starts acting up(nauseous, burning, loss of appetite,etc.) Also, I had the all encompassing body aches to go with it.

The electrical thing is called a T.E.N.S. unit (dont know what it stands for...anybody?) Alot of PTs use them as well and I have heard of people on this site buying smaller versions for home use. It has been a long time since I have had that therapy but it has always helped my acute pain.

I am skeptical about chiropractic...even though it feels soooo good at the time!

I have been going to a chiro for the last year about 2 times per week. I don't get treated for fibro per se but for multiple orthopedic issues involving my hip, back and shoulder. He does back(flexion-distraction) and hip adjustments along with active release technique and Graston technique. I do get interferential treatments which are a type of electric stimulation as well as ultra-sound and cold laser depending on the day and how I'm feeling. I do believe it all has been helpful and as my orthopedic issues improve so does my fibro. I do feel sore sometimes right after an appt but can't say that he ever caused a flare. I think you just need to find the right person to work with you just like any doctor. Lisa

I had a horny chiropractor (can I say that here??)      Then after I got over the heebie jeebies, I got a good one.  But he died.  so sad.  My new one is his son and I am not sure I trust him too much.  He is not a quack but has some ideas that seem really strange.  I say not a quack because he really truly believes these things.  Not being purposefully fraudulent.

See, he has these classes where he keeps bottles of herbs.  He has you put your arms out straight out at your sides (so you look like the letter "t").  Then he puts an herb by you and if he can push your arm down easily, then you need that herb.  He diagnosed me with parasites that way. 

I feel worse after chiropracter, then better, but am not sure if it is better than before I went or just not worse anymore.

I went to so many chiropractor appointments between the ages of 18-21 (I'm 26 now) that my spine is like a wet noodle. I actually just adjust it myself now. I just have to lean one way and push the back of my hip to get those pops and cracks the same as the doctor does. I probably adjust it myself 20-30 times a day ??? If I'm not getting those pops and cracks that's when I get worried though, because that means I've got swelling in the joints and I'm gonna be in a lot a pain.

I would suggest chiropractic care for relief of symptoms. Just the same as massage or most any other treatment, they are not cures, but it can help you to feel better. Myself it only lasts for the day of, and then its the same all over again the next day.

Hey Statgeek...maybe that's why when I reached for the vanilla in the grocery story my arm jerked over to the chocolate chips...my system is chocolate dperived.  Today when I go for milk I'm gonna see if my arm is yanked over to the Ben and Jerry's.
