mouth sores??

I just wish the cracks in the sides of my mouth would heal it's so hard to eat and to top it off, my tongue and throat hurt so badly.

Im finding now over the past month I'm getting mouth sores/ulcers. Each time one goes a new one pops up, and atm I have 3 in my mouth - makes it hard to eat, brush my teeth, and sometimes talk as they brush against my teeth. The newest one is just behind my lip and driving me bonkers!

Had no idea this was part of Fibro. At least now I know I'm not going nuts. Might try that medicinal rum treatment with gin haha. I'll let you know how I go!

I swear, in spite of the fact that I've knocked my other Fibro symptoms down by 95%, of the remaining 5%, half or more of my still existing problems are always in my mouth ! :(

ANYTHING irritates my mouth and gums. Had such a hard time eating my dinner last night :(
Doesn't help that I have a molar (the only one left) that is split in half, right down the center, on the bottom right....

But about this Rum thing, Sherrine !!! Aaahhhhh ! Couldn't it just be something light weight, like Heroin or crack rock ? ;) LOL I am SOOO anti-alcohol, you just can't imagine it !

I mean, I can't imagine walking into a "legalized drug house" to buy the stuff, after talking nothing but garbage about it for years ! Maybe I could get one of my room mates to pick some up for me.

I swear, I could not walk into a liquor store and buy this stuff, without 1) telling them what it was actually for, and 2) telling them, how their whole establisment sucks ***, and 3) asking them how many lives do they figure the drugs they are selling, have ruined, or taken ?

Alright.... alright.... I'll get one of my roomies to get me some rum, and will try this.... and I will definitely spit that garbage out after I have rinse with it.

Chris, I'm anti-alcohol too.  I haven't had a drink in years.  My brother was an alcoholic and I saw him destroy lives.  But, my husband and I had rum in the house from when we first were married.  The rum actually was 17 years old!  LOL  But, with Crohns's I had sores in my cheeks and along the sides of my tongue and nothing was helping.  I started thinking of all the bacteria in our mouths and what can kill bacteria.  Alcohol!  Doctors use alcohol to sterilize instruments, etc.  But, I didn't want to put rubbing alcohol in my mouth so I opted for rum and it did work!

 

It burned like a son of a gun for about 10 seconds and then my mouth was tingly-numb for a few minutes.  I waited about 12 hours and did it again.  It didn't burn as much and the next morning my mouth was MUCH better.  I only had to use the rum for about three days and it cleared up the sores.  I did NOT swallow the rum.  I just swished it around in my mouth like mouthwash and then spit it out. 

 

It's cheap, it's not a drug, and it has sure worked for me and my family.  I know it sounds a little whacko, but it works.  I don't get the sores so much anymore.  I did bite the inside of my cheek a few days ago but it didn't get really inflammed so I didn't need the rum.

I guess I should have said not a prescription drug!  LOL  Fussy, fussy Chris!!!  I do know the horrors of alcohol and haven't missed it since I stopped having even one social drink.  I can now sit back and watch others make fools of themselves!  LOL  Plus, I'm always the designated driver.  Cool!

I know what you mean.  I had to buy some a few years ago and was embarrassed to be seen in the store and I hoped no one I knew saw me go in and out of the store, too!  LOL  Dumb, I know, but I do know what you mean.  I now have enough rum (one pint bottle) to probably last me the rest of my life.  LOL

Well couchtater, original formula Listerine is 26.9% alcohol, making it approximately 54 proof...

While most Rum contains, anywhere from 40% to 75% (80-150 proof)

But even aside from the higher alcohol content, Sherrine did say "Rum" specifically, and not just any old garbage with a high alcohol content, so maybe their is something in the Rum, besides alcohol, that has a positive effect.... at least for Sherrine, which is enough for me to at least try it myself.

I am soooo glad that you all bumped this up! After I read this thread yesterday, I discovered that in addition to the swollen taste bud (which is always what I thought they were), I had what looked like a tear on my tongue. This has only happened once before, and that was last month (I think) sometime. I thought for sure when it first happened that it happened because I bit it and just didn't remember doing it (although bighting the tongue typically hurts like the bejebus!

I did end up taking a picture so that I could take it to my rheumy. If I upload it somewhere, I will put it here too. I really do not know what the sores are, but I never have them when I go to the doc. I also did try that alcohol swish, and it does feel much better today. I used the rum, but I could have used others. I use a lot of it in cooking. I did remember why I do not drink shots of hard alcohol straight up. Yuck!

Sherrine and all., you oughta' know me by now. I never do "anything" partway :) LOL

So on the way home, I picked up a pint of Bacardi 151 overproofed rum ! Then, stopped by CVS to get a bottle of tyhe old school gold Listerine to mix it with ! I tried 1/3 Listerine, with 2/3rds Bacardi, so I'm thinking it was probably 100+ proof.

And OMG !!! That stuff is horrendous ! And yes, it burned like mad for a minute or two, but 5 minutes later, and even now, 30 min later, my mouth feels, if anything, somewhat soothed.

Will certainly do it again after dinner and brushing, then again after breakfast....

Will report how this goes.

I just did the rum listerine mix again, and no more "alarming taste" exists in the universe ! :) LOL

But hey now, my mouth was already feeling better this morning, then after this round, my gums felt completely warm and fuzzy :)

Honestly, I could handle this 8 or 10 X's, if that's what it would take, but I hope its faster :) Don't think I'd ever "get used to it" :)

PS, That Bacardi 151 is SO hard core, I can't believe its legal ? ....or, that people actually want to drink the stuff ???

I get mouth sores and I use Grapefruit seed extract and I don't get them. I put 10-15 drops in my milk every day. If I forget..then I get mouth sores.

I am soooo happy, Chris! It just sounds so weird but it works! I call it my "medicinal rum". My daughter even uses it for cold sores. She puts rum on a Q-tip and puts it on the cold sore. When my kids were really little, that's what I would do with canker sores they would get. No way would I have them swish rum in their mouth. They would even come to me for me to do this. They knew it would burn at first but their mouth would feel much better quickly.

Actually, after three treatments, it went away. I was amazed at how quickly it healed. I still feel that there is an area that will inflame (you know how it does not hurt, but you can just feel something), but everything that was going on is gone.

I used Bacardi (not 151) and no listerine. :) I think if I would have mixed that too, I would have gagged.

I usually do not drink, but I have several types of alcohol in my cupboards. I use them for cooking, and when I am sick. Sometimes I will have a rum and coke or a black russian, but not often. If I get the flu (or just a sore throat) I will make a hot toddie with scotch. It always helps my throat feel better.

I know that some people do not drink, but if you do not mind it in your mouth, it seems to work for several aliments!
