I want to know if anyone has gotten inflamation with their Fibromyalgia? Or another question : Does Fibromyalgia cause inflamation?  I'm trying to help my Rheumy out. She is trying to help me out by trying to find my inflamation problem in my blood.

I don't understand......

HARA - Fibromyalgia, Diabetes 2, Depression, Anxiety, Sleep Apnea, Carpol tunnel, Asthma, GERD, occational tendonitis

I have some swelling/inflammation. However, I really don't know if its part of fibro or not. My doctor isn't quite sure either. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Fibro is NOT inflammatory. The lack of inflammation in my test results is what led my rheumy to dx Fibro.

When I got my latest physical I asked for C-reactive protein test which checks for inflammation. When they got the results the Drs. thought I was sick or injured because the numbers were so high. I don't know if it was Fibro though because I have arthritis and some other issues. Diane

From HARA: I sometimes read that there can be inflammation with Fibro and then I read that there isn't any. It's confussing.

From HARA: I have had the C-reactive protein and it's at 4.0 which is high. I've had that blood work all three times since April 1, 2009. Then I have a SED Rate of 58, 54, 54 which is high also. Another one for inflammation . Plus I'm not doing well with the Iron issue.

Like Donna said, inflammation is NOT part of fibromyalgia. That doesn't mean that you won't have swollen feet in the summer heat or after hours of standing on your feet...those are normal for anyone, but there is no inflammation with fibro.

Although fibromyalgia is often considered an arthritis-related condition, it is not truly a form of arthritis (a disease of the joints) because it does not cause inflammation or damage to the joints, muscles, or other tissues. Like arthritis, however, fibromyalgia can cause significant pain and fatigue, and it can interfere with a person’s ability to carry on daily activities. Also like arthritis, fibromyalgia is considered a rheumatic condition, a medical condition that impairs the joints and/or soft tissues and causes chronic pain.

Hope this helps clear things up. I would suggest people stay away from snake oil salesmen and people who are too eager to take your money for a cure/treatment. When the schietific community can figure out what is Causing fibro, then they can work on a cure. Until then the only treatment that is honest and tested in double blind studies if for a few medications that treat the symptoms which is pain.

Men do have fibromyalgia. Even the NIH confirms that.

The comment about its a womens disease I not accurate. My husband finally heard those words three days ago at his doctors office and is started and pain meds and amitripline (sp). Hes a strong tough guy but admits he is in pain everyday.

I have read that inflammation is not part of fibro. However, every blood test I've had for at least 20 years now has shown a high sed rate, which indicates inflammation somewhere. Docs have no explanation.

Just so all you girls know i am a guy who had a woman's disease .Guys never get FMS acording to the folks in CA. It hurt me as much as it does you but i also had the guys kidding me for having a disease that only affects women.

 My quote thing is not working right on my laptop. What else should I ask my Rheumy? She's dont all the Rheumatiod Arthritis and has extended the RA blood work to. I'm not sure if she's done Osteoarthritis or just plain Arthritis. I don't seem to have an Autoimunne Disease she says.

 

But the doctor I work with says it looked like I had some kind of Autoimunne thing going on because the SED Rate was very high and my C-Reactive proteins were high. Go figure.
