There was actually an episod of "House" where he used a paperweight (or something) and broke his hand to take his mind off the pain in his leg (not that I recommend this, of course).
Have you tried sitting on those donut pillows that take the pressure off of your tailbone?
Or have you tried having someone massage your back, hip, and rear-end? Sometimes these muscles get in such a spasm for me (from the neck down to my leg) that the only thing that helps is massaging the knots out. Everyone in my family has been asked at one time or another to massage my rear-end. I got over the embarrassment a long time ago.
